Rob Pratt and Pete Stefanski crown champions on Jack Veach Championship Night.
Batavia, NY—September 1, 2007--By: Chris Rhynold, Media/Racer Relations Director
Rob Pratt and Pete Stefanski both topped off there stellar seasons by celebrating their championships along with feature wins. Pratt who was coming off double feature wins last night at Ohsweken Speedway added yet another feature win to the list by dominating the 25 lap main event. Pete Stefanski wasted no time getting to the point and ran away like he has done 10 other times at Genesee Speedway this season. Jeb Walworth, Dan Norton and Dave DuBois also added another feature win to their resumes by visiting victory lane as repeat winners.
Bobby Dickinson and Dan Norton would lead the Dickinson’s Auto Service Mini Stock feature to the green. Norton would jump to the early lead with Dickinson in tow. Brandon Aradine would get by Dickinson for the runner up spot and Ken Hixenbaugh would follow his lead taking the 3rd spot from Dickinson. Hixenbaugh would try to utilize the high side to over take Aradine. By doing that Hixenbaugh opened the door for Randy Barclay to take the 3rd spot. Dan Norton would cruise to his 4th Genesee Speedway feature win of the season.
Heat Winners – Heat #1 – Russ Wassner, Heat #2 – Brandon Aradine
Jeb Walworth would jump to the early lead in the Bobcat of Buffalo Street Stock feature. Colton Chappius would reel in Walworth but would have an up and down night as he would get to Walworth’s bumper one lap then be five car lengths away the next. The biggest battle on the track would be the battle between Joey Spicola and Bill Weller. Weller would challenge Spicola for many laps and finally pulled it off in the later portion of the race. No one had anything for Walworth as he finally shook the gremlins out of his car and went on to score his 4th feature win of the season.
Heat Winners – Heat #1 – Bill Weller, Heat #2 Jeff Maxwell
Dan Shoop would lead the Greenlief’s Restaurant Pro Stocks to the green for the final pro stock feature of the 2007 season at Genesee Speedway. By just starting the event, Pete Stefanski locked up the 2007 Pro Stock Championship. Stefanski took the early lead followed by Don Barnes. Stefanski and Barnes opened up a 2 car breakaway as they had opened up a half straightaway lead by lap 10 over Steve Lewis. John Gagner put on quite the light show as his left rear brake rotor glowed bright orange for the entire event. Two late race cautions would bunch the field up but wouldn’t help anyone as Pete Stefanski scored his 11 feature win of the season at Genesee Speedway and celebrated his championship in victory lane.
Heat Winners – Heat #1 – Pete Stefanski, Heat #2 – John Zimmerman
Don Spatorico and John Venuto would set the front row for the Troyer Race Cars Sportsman feature. Points leader Rob Pratt who was starting from the 3rd hole in the line-up would have to finish better than 9th to pick up the 2007 Sportsman championship. Venuto would jump to the early lead and Pratt would slip by Spatorico for 2nd. Pratt would bolt by Venuto for the lead on the 2nd lap and begin his run to the championship. Spatorico would try to overtake Venuto as the two made contact and Venuto would hold his spot. The field would bunch up on lap 9 as Jason Hallet spun in turn 4. Pratt would get the jump on the restart allowing him to open up a big advantage on the field. Yellow would again fly on lap 13 for a stopped Tim Downs. Again on the restart Pratt would bolt away from the field leaving Venuto, Spatorico, Wright and Schumacher battling for the runner-up spot. Spatorico finally got to the 2nd spot on lap 17 after many attempts. Two laps later Justin Wright would put the same move on Venuto for 3rd place. Lap by lap Spatorico and Wright were closing in on Pratt. The two would run out of time and laps as Rob Pratt would collect his 7th feature of the season at Genesee Speedway and the 2007 Sportsman Championship.
Heat Winners – Heat #1 – John Venuto, Heat #2 – Don Spatorico
Front row sitters Dave DuBois and Jon Rivers led the field to the green for the BDK Construction 360 Late Model feature. DuBois would take the lead with Rivers chasing him. The field would only complete 1 lap as the yellow flew for a spinning Jim Johnson. DuBois would again take command but was having a lot of pressure applied by Rivers for the top spot. Rich Hale was holding the 3rd spot and running away from the rest of the pack and keeping pace with the leaders. Caution would again fly as Jim Johnson came to a stop in turn 2. Hale would begin to challenge Rivers for 2nd but slid high opening the door for Bob Babbitt to take the 3rd spot. By lap 10 pro stock driver Pete Stefanski had worked his way up to the 6th spot from his 10th starting position and was hounding Tim Kauffman for the 5th spot. Stefanski took the spot on lap 13 from Kauffman. Points leader Jim Johnson was on the move. After going tail he had worked his way to the 6th spot. Yellow would fly for a spinning Justin Chaddock. Before the yellow, Pete Stefanski was turning laps a ¼ second faster than the rest of the field. DuBois still held the point but had a group of cars breathing down his neck. Caution would hit the speedway again on lap 18 as Bob Babbitt and Pete Stefanski collected each other with Stefanski continuing on and not losing a spot. Jim Johnson was still on the move as he drove around Rich Hale for the 4th spot. Still no one had anything for Dave DuBois as he collected his 3rd feature win of the season.
Heat Winners – Heat #1 – TJ Newton, Heat #2 – Jim Johnson
