FELMLEE, GRIFFIN, ROUGUEX, D'APOLITO, AND FRALEY CROWNED 2007 CHAMPS AT SHARON SPEEDWAY
Lynch, D'Apolito, Griffin, Schrader and Jones Feature Winners
HARTFORD, Ohio; September, 2007 - Bob Felmlee, Warren Harley Davidson Sprints, Guy Griffin, Limited Sprints, Del Rouguex, Gibson Governor Modifieds, Steve D'Apolito, Tom's Sewer & Drain Stock Cars, and Howard Fraley in the Coy Brothers Trucking Emods, were crowned champions for 2007 at Sharon Speedway. After all racing was complete for the evening, these five drivers received their crown, a cake to share with family and friends, and congratulatory remarks from Jim Pollock, Sharon Speedway's announcer, on the front stretch of the speedway in front of a crowd of cheering fans.
Feature wins for the night went to Ed Lynch Jr, sprints, Steve D'Apolito, stocks, Dave Schrader, modifieds, Guy Griffin limited sprints, and Scott Jones, emods.
Scott Bennell and Mike Kekich lead the charge to the green in the 25 lap Warren Harley Davidson Sprint A Main. Bonnell took command from the outset into turn one for the first four circuits. By the fifth lap, sixth place starter Ed Lynch Jr. found the top spot on his way to victory # 5 of the season. Lynch lead the final 20 laps around the 3/8 mile speedplant.
Meanwhile, the battle was for the coveted runner-up position as Joey Keegan and Bonnell made dicing moves through traffic. 13th place starter Dan Shetler passed Keegan on the white flag lap to finish second, third went to Bob Felmlee who started 22nd and was also involved in a spin at lap three. Fourth was Keegan and Bonnell 5th. Heat winners were Lynch and Bonnell.
The luck of the draw for the 15 lap Tom's Sewer and Drain stock feature went to Ed Cornell and Steve D'Apolito. With a significant point advantage going into the feature, D'Apolito's front row start secured his third point title at Sharon. Steve lead all fifteen laps around the speedway while all the rest of the field mixed it up for 2nd position.and on back. Bruce Redman tried several times to unseat D'Apolito from the point, but fell short settling for second. Alan Hudzik finished third, his first top 5 of the season, Bill Hanna fourth and 11th place starter Al Dellinger was fifth. Heat winners were Stan Womer, Bill Hanna, Ed Cornell, with Shaun Hooks going home with a win in the Consi.
It was a close battle for the points battle in the Gibson Governor Ins. modifieds betwen Del Rouguex and Brian Swartzlander. Rouguex started 19th after missing his heat race as Swartzlander drew position 8 for the start of the race. Rex King and Rob Kristyak brought the field to the green with King quickly showing his power taking an immediate three car advantage over the second place car. By the 3rd lap, 7th place starter Jim Rasey muscled his machine to the inside of turn three passing Kristyak.. A restart on Lap 8 found Rasey leading with Kristyak and Rex King in pursuit. Lapped traffic was trouble sending Rasey, Kristyak, and Swartzlander spinning on lap thirteen. As Russel King inherited the lead, an overheated engine caused him to relinquish it to Dave Schrader. It was a time for celebration as Dave Schrader found victory at Sharon Speedway, his last win at the track was on the old 1/2 mile in the late 80's Del Rouguex secured the track title by finishng 2nd, third was Rex King, 4th Brian Swartzlander and Jim Rasey in fifth. Rodney Beltz and Russell King won heats.
Doug Kekich and Eric Williams sat on the front row for the Limited Sprint feature. Kekich and Nate Stein made ontact on the first lap sending Kekich into the wall and Stein doing a 360 spin in front of the oncoming field. With a lap recorded Eric Williams continued out front until point leader Guy Griffin completed a pass in turn 2, and led the race, posting hisseventh win, until the checkered flag fell. Williams was runner-up while Nate Stein, Brandon Spitlaher, and Jason Scoville completing the top five. Doug Kekich won the heat.
Points leader, Howard Fraley, held a 25 point lead over Jeff Sharp at the start of the Coy Brothers Trucking emod feature. Fraley drew the pole position with Scott Jones alongside in the front row. Jones drove hard into turn one leading the first lap over the 23 car field. By the second lap, seventh place starter, Jerff Sharp was on the bumper of Jones with Al Dellinger riding the high side of Sharp. By the sixth circuit, Dellinger found the top spot until Jones regained the lead on lap eight. Suffering a flat tire on the 12th lap, Dellinger headed to the pits as Sharp continued to challenge for the lead. Jones went on to a career first victory in his 11 years of racing. Sharp, once again was runner-up securing him 2nd in the points battle. Jeff Hassy was third for his first top 5 finish of the year. Fraley held on for fourth, winning the title by 19 points. Bob Diver drove from thirteenth to fifth. Dwayne Clay and Al Dellinger won heats.
