JIMMY HORTON WINS FEATURE WHILE ROB PIERCE CROWNED 358 MODIFIED CHAMPION

Bridgeport, NJ… Bridgeport Speedway’s leading all time modified feature winner, Jimmy Horton, picked up his second win of the season in the 358 Modified division, taking the 25 lap main event on the banked 5/8th mile South Jersey oval. In other action on the big track, Chuck Palmucci took home his first career victory in the Bridgeport Limited Sprint feature. On the Bridgeport ¼ mile oval, second generation driver Jeff Hartman won the 270 Micro Sprint feature, while Bob DeVault walked away with his third win of the 2007 season in the 600 Micro Sprint 20 lap main event. The 4Cylinder Stocks competed in two features, with Jim Hughes winning the held over event from July 27th, with Elmer, NJ’s Dave Damiano taking home the win in the regularly scheduled race.

Surviving a crash filled 20-lap event, Flagtown, NJ’s Jeff Hartman started the race in fourth place, and held on to go home with his fifth win of the year. Hartman held off runner up Shaun Ratchford on a last lap restart to get the win, with Andrew Locuson, John Blanda, and John Copeland completing the top five. Wes Harbison, Steve Bucko, Jeff Hartman, and Copeland won the qualifying heats for the 33 cars in attendance.

The 600 Micro Sprint feature saw Monroeville, NJ’s Bob DeVault charge from his seventh starting spot to get the win, his third of the year. DeVault, currently second in points held off Jimmy Carpenter for the win, with Rick Stief, Nick Sapp, and Bill Thomas rounding out the top five.

The 4 Cylinder Stocks had two features scheduled for the night, with the first a postponed event from July 27th. Jimmy Hughes was the victor in the first feature with point leader Brian Crisman right behind. Warren Stradley, Dave Damiano and Ian Wray filled out the top five in the event. The second feature saw Dave Damiano get the win, his second of the year, followed by Ken Wallace, Dave Bentley Jr., Stradley and Hughes.

Action on the big track saw Bordentown, NJ’s Chuck Palmucci cruise to first career sprint car win, with two time winner Kevin Darling closing in on the final laps of the 20 lap event. Second generation driver Dave Brown came home third in the Gangemi #84, with Andy Best and Jeff Mueller completing the top five. Point leader hank Trum never got past hot laps for the night, retiring for the evening with engine woes.

The 358 Modified feature had early leader John Stangle hold on to the front spot until halfway, when Jimmy Horton put the Clark #026 on the Stangle #6 rear bumper. On laps 15 and 16, Stangle and Horton swapped the lead back and forth, with Horton finally taking the lead for good on lap 17. At the finish, it was Horton and Stangle, followed by Richie Pratt jr., Rob Pierce, and Ron Roberts. The fourth place finish was enough to give Pierce his first ever 358 Modified Championship, just points ahead of runner up Pratt.
