By Martin Bélanger
CORNWALL, On – Sunday September 2, 2007 – It was the ‘big one’ on Jiffy Auto Service night at Cornwall Motor Speedway with the presentation of the Mr.DIRTcar Series race for the modifieds which they had a 100-lap event. The Pro-Stock also an Mr.DIRTcar series race with a 50-lap feature race. The Semi-Pro and Rookie classes were also on hand on a beautiful Sunday evening.
The 2007 Cornwall Motor Speedway track champion, Alain Boisvert started on the pole of the 100-lap Mr.DIRTcar Series event as he took the lead but had David Hébert and Lee Ladouceur on his back bumper, Hébert was now challenging Boisvert and got the lead on lap 6 from Boisvert with Lee Ladouceur in third. The leaders got into traffic with 12 laps in the feature as Hébert worked his through it with Lee Ladouceur taking the opportunity to pass Boisvert in those conditions on lap 16. With 25 laps in the books, Hébert was still the leader with Lee Ladouceur in second and Alain Boisvert in third. Some good battles was going on for positions 3 to 10 with some three wide action all over the track with Mike Adderley cracking the top 5 on lap 30. Adderley was now third after making some good moves over Boisvert and Laurent Ladouceur. Hébert had a complete stretch advantage over Lee Ladouceur with 40 laps completed when the first caution came out on the same lap for Perry Francis. Hébert had a great jump on the restart when Mario Clair slowed the field down on lap 44. Hébert got another good start over the field when Yan Bussière and Pierre Dagenais got tangled in turn 1 on lap 46. Hébert was still your leader with some position swapping going on for spots 3 to 5. At the halfway mark, the top 5 was Hébert, Lee Ladouceur, Mike Adderley, Pete Bicknell and Laurent Ladouceur as Hébert was moving away from Lee Ladouceur while Bicknell was trying hard to get the third spot when he did his move on lap 58 to grab it and one lap later he was now second when passed Lee Ladouceur. Bicknell was getting closer to Hébert as they were in heavy traffic when Pierre Dagenais spun out on lap 67. Hébert was still the leader with 25 laps to go in the feature when Alain Boisvert stopped in turn 4 on lap 78. Hébert led the field again when a caution came out for Eric Gauvreau. On the restart, Hébert got a good start with Pat O’Brien using the outside lane to grab the third spot from Lee Ladouceur and was using the same trick on Bicknell for second and he did pass him with 5 to go. A great battle was going on for the first spot as O’Brien was now challenging Hébert but he did not have enough to catch Hébert with O’Brien finishing second, Pete Bicknell finishing in third, Lee Ladouceur fourth and Danny O’Brien completing the top 5. Hébert was pretty happy in winner circle as he stated: ‘the car was great all race long and it`s always fun to win one here in Cornwall’. Lee Ladouceur, Stéphane Lafrance, Brian McDonald and Mike Adderly had won the qualifying heat races. Ladouceur had the fastest time during time trials with a time of 13.169 seconds.
The 50-lap Mr.DIRTcar Pro-Stock series race started with Pete Stefanski taking the lead but tangle occured on lap 1 in the backstretch. Stefanski kept the lead with Benedict in second and Roy in third but Joey Ladouceur grabbed third from the outside on lap 3. Stefanski got a good lead over the field when Ladouceur got the second spot from the outside lane on lap 8 but Benedict charged back when 2 cars got together in turn 2 on lap 10. Stefanski got his nose ahead of Ladouceur as he moved away from the field as Ladouceur got challenged for his second spot from Benedict when Godard got into the mix and he used the outside lane to grab the second spot from Ladouceur when Levac brought the caution on lap 20 with Benedict headed to the pits and lost his third spot. Godard used the outside lane to take the top spot on the next green but Stefanski was still there. With 25 laps down, Godard was the leader with Stefanski in second, Benedict in third, Louie Jackson fourth and Stéphane Lebrun completing the top 5. Godard got a good start when the yellow was back out on lap 28. Godard and Stefanski were even on the next green as they battle for the lead as Stefanski got it by a nose when the field had to slow down again on lap 30. Stefanski got a good start over Godard, but the high lane was working well for Godard as he stayed close to Stefanski with Lebrun in third with fifteen laps to go. William Adams lost control of his car in turn 4 on lap 37 and yellow was back out. Stefanski was still the leader on the green while Godard had to battle with Lebrun and Jackson to keep his second spot with ten to go when Godard went too high and Jackson took the second spot with Lebrun following spot when Jackson did a tremendous move in traffic over Stefanski to grab the lead on lap 44 and his the new leader when Joey Ladouceur stopped on lap 46. When the race resumed Jackson and Stefanski went at it with Stefanski back on top with two to go. Stefanski led the last two laps to win the feature over Jackson; Lebrun completed the podium with Gilles Godard finishing fourth and George Renaud completing the top 5. ‘I was fortunate enough to stay in front and I would like to thank PJ and Alan Peters for helping me with my car’ as Stefanski said in the post-race interview. Pete Stefanski, Clayton Benedict and Jocelyn Roy were the qualifying heat winners.
In the Semi-Pro feature, Marco Lalonde took the lead with Roger Hamilton on his tail when Stuart Mullin stopped in the infield on lap 3. Hamilton was now the new leader with a good restart with Steve Herrigan in second and Marc Lalonde in third. Mike Gaucher jumped in the lead in the 12-lap rookie expert feature when a caution came on the first lap. On the restart, Kevin Dejong grabbed the lead over Gaucher when Jean-Marc Larose came into second with Andrew Russell getting into the mix when the second caution came out. Dejong had a good start on the next green with Russell following closely when he used the outside lane to pass Dejong on lap 8 and he led the last four laps to win the feature, Dejong finished second and Marc Usereau completed the top 3. Andrew Russell and Kevin Dejong were the heat winners in the rookie expert.
Jesse Thompson took the early lead on the rookie novice feature with Marc Chartrand coming into second spot on lap 3. Thompson slowed and this allowed Jacques Boisclair to grab the lead at the halfway point with David Sequin in second with Gerry ‘O’ was now sitting in second with three to go but Boisclair was too far away for being catch and he won his first feature of the year at Cornwall Motor Speedway with Gerry O finishing in second and David Sequin completed the top 3. Jacques Boisclair and Jesse Thompson won the qualifying heats in the rookie novice.
