Joe Middlemiss Repeats at Brighton’s Labour Day Classic
Joe Middlemiss of St. Catherines, Ontario collected his 2nd Southern Ontario
Sprints Feature win in 2007 by snaring the shortened finale at Brighton
Speedway Sunday night.
Pending curfew forced track personnel to shorten the event concluding the
two day Labour Day Weekend spectacular.
Pole sitter, Derek Jonathan led the 1st circuit before being overtaken by
Bob McDonald in lap #2. McDonald’s lead was short lived as he would spin
the car in turn #1, handing the lead over to Saturday night winner, Dick
Mahoney. Middlemiss had moved into 4th spot as the field formed a restart.
Joey quickly overhauled Warren Mahoney to take 3rd and one lap later took
second, sending Derek Jonathan to 3rd. Caution flag waved again on lap 6 as
rookies Mike Ferrell (15) and Bill Baldwin (14) collected each other at the
exit of turn 4.
As the green waved again, Middlemiss quickly disposed of Mahoney and cruised
to the win. One other caution slowed the field on lap nine as Jamie Collard
looped his car in turn 4.
Warren Mahoney (25) closed to finish 2nd, followed by 33k of Kyle Patrick,
42w of Rick Wilson, and Dick Mahoney’s 79 rounding out the top five.
Series Point Leader, Glenn Styres finished 7th.
Heat races were won by Kyle PATRICK, Derek JONATHON and Bob CRAWFORD. The
DASH for CASH was won by Kyle PATRICK.
The curtain falls on the 2007 Southern Ontario Sprint Season next Friday
night, when their season championship will be decided in an “INVITATIONAL
Only” at Ohsweken Speedway. Action gets underway at 7:45 p.m.
