ROC DART DIRT SPORTSMAN TOUR EVENT AT UTICA ROME OFF THE SCHEDULE. NORTH POINTS FINAL ENTERING FALL COMBINATION RACES. JEREMY WILDER NORTH REGION CHAMP.
BINGHAMTON, NY
The previously scheduled Race of Champions Dart Dirt Sportsman North region finale set for Utica Rome has been removed from the tour schedule. The North region points now become final as they stand with Jeremy Wilder being put in the record books as the 2007 region Champion.
Notification of the change came through an email from Utica Rome General Manger Dick Sweet. It stated that the speedway would be running a Sportsman event under Utica Rome weekly rules and not under the RoC banner.
With this cancellation the RoC Dart Dirt Sportsman north points will be locked in entering the final fall combination races. This will find Fonda Speedway regular Jeremy Wilder winning the title. Ironically the drivers that had the most opportunity to gain positions in the point race were Utica Rome weekly drivers Matt Janczuk (2nd in points), Brad Alger (3rd in points), Casey Williams (4th in points), Steve Way (5th in points).
Race of Champions Tour Director Andrew Harpell stated, We really appreciate the support of all those Utica Rome teams and are sorry they dont have a chance to race for the title at their own track. He added, The decision was not ours and we would have liked to have seen the region title decided on the race track.
The overall Race of Champions Dart Dirt Tour Championships will now focus on the upcoming fall combination races. Penn Can Speedway will host the Kings Weekend on September 15th and 16th. The RoC Sportsman and Modifieds will be on the docket Sunday, September 16th for a double header. The Modifieds will race in a 100 lap event with the Sportsman doing battle in a 40 lapper.
Fonda Speedway will host the McDonalds weekend on September 22nd and 23rd. The Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modifieds and Sportsman will be on the card Sunday of that weekend. The Modifieds will race in a 100 lap special with the Sportsman slated for a 40 lapper.
The overall RoC titles will be decided on October 12th and 13th at Five Mile Point Speedway. On Friday the Sportsman will have their chance to race in a big extra distance special. A 100 lap event for the Sportsman stars will be on the card and will serve as the biggest event for the class in the northeast. The winner will earn a minimal $2,000 for the win. The RoC Dart Dirt Modifieds will see their final point race take place on that Saturday at the Point with the annual running of the Southern Tier 100.
