Eddie Carrier Jr. Captures 39th Annual Hillbilly 100

Posted by Late Model Editor  |  09/04/07

Eddie Carrier, Jr. of Salt Rock, WV picked up the biggest win of his racing career on Saturday Night as he captured the 39th Annual "Hillbilly 100" at the Tyler County Speedway. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned event paid $25,000 to win, as Carrier became the 18th different winner in 32 races this season. Carrier led all 100 laps, but had to withstand constant pressure from Doug Horton over the last half of the race. Horton would blow a tire on the final lap and that allowed 21st place starter, Scott James to pass him at the flag stand to finish second. Horton would wind up third followed by Earl Pearson, Jr. and Freddy Smith.

Completing the top ten were Steve Casebolt, Donnie Moran, Steve Weigle, Butch McGill and Steve Shaver.

Carrier's win came aboard the Carl Grover Motorsports/Engines Inc./Railway Equipment Sales/Blue Ridge Machinery/Hess, Stewart and Campbell sponsored Rocket Ford Fusion. For the 36 year old Kentucky native it was his second career series win. His first came in 2004 when he won a $10,000 to win event at K-C Raceway in Ohio.

In preliminary action Rick Williams topped the 85-car field in the LifeLong Locks Time Trials. Steve Casebolt, Terry English, Eddie Carrier, Jr., Steve Weigle, Doug Horton and Paul Wilmoth, Jr. won the Hawk Brake and Quarter Master sponsored heat races. The four Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno and Penske Shocks B-main winners were Donnie Dotson, Mike Benedum, Charlie George and Butch McGill.

The next Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race will be on Saturday Night, September 15 at West Virginia Motor Speedway in Mineral Wells, WV. The Annual "RACEFEST" event will pay $20,000 to win.
