PERIGO AND KNAUB WIN SNS FINALE ON FRIDAY; HERR WINS TITLE
September 7, 2007
MECHANICSBURG, PA - Carmen Perigo Jr. and Gene Knaub ended the Saturday
Night Series program at Williams Grove Speedway with victories in the
super sportsman and 358 Late Model divisions, respectively, on Friday night.
Perigo waited until the final lap to pass Danny Hager, who took over the
lead when Jay Fannasy crashed while leading on the third lap, for the
feature event victory. Perigo returned and collected $600 in the Credit
Connection six-lap dash for division winners this season.
Also, Frankie Herr clinched the Williams Grove Speedway super sportsman
title by virtue of his fourth place finish. Only one super sportsman
race remains on the schedule at the Grove (September 21).
Perigo started ninth in the 24-car feature field and was running third
when the third lap was completed. After a caution for Paul Miller's spin
in the fourth turn, Fannasy, who led from the start, crashed between
turns three and four. Five other cars were involved in the crash. No
drivers were injured in the multi-car incident.
After two caution periods, including one on lap 18, Perigo finally got
the high line working to his advantage. As the field raced down the
frontstretch on lap 19, Perigo pulled off a successful move for the lead.
Perigo led the last half-mile for the victory. Hager settled for second,
followed by Rick Barr, Herr and John Stehman. Jake Raudabaugh, Steve
Wilbur, Jason Fry, Ryan Rupp and Paul Miller completed the top 10.
Heat events for the 36 cars went to Jay Fannasy, Herr, Bobby Hockenberry
and Lanny Hake. Steve Fannasy and Stehman won the consolation races.
Gene Knaub held off Tyler Armstrong in the 20-lap 358 Late Model feature
race. The win was Knaub's third win of the year at Williams Grove Speedway.
Knaub beat Tyler Armstrong, Derrike Zirkle, Carl Billet and track
champion Tyler Hershey. Heat races for the 26 cars went to Larry Baer,
Armstrong and Knaub. No consolation was needed.
Randy Patterson was victorious in the non-stop 15-lap street stock
feature over track champion Kory Sites, Gary Johnston, Kevin Wirt and
Rodney Clouser.
Rick Reinoehl won the 50-lap Enduro Stock feature.
