LaFrance hits mach one status with radical design at Brockville
BROCKVILLE-It was an amazing display of innovation and flat out speed at Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday night. Stephane LaFrance left many in the stands with their jaw dropping as he whizzed around the track with his run what you brung creation dominating all night and capturing his third feature win of 2007 in the Modified division LaFrance's car was part wedge car, part modified, part spint car and built with loving care with one goal, go way faster than anyone else.
LaFrance started the night going around the fast quarter mile oval in an electronically time track record of 12.5 seconds, but was still running 12.8's during the 30 lap feature that he led all the way. Despite some pretty good creativity from his competitors as well, it was a mismatch as LaFrance was hitting mach one, while the others were fast, just not mach-115 fast. LaFrance almost had the field lapped until a caution came out just before the 20 lap mark leaving Brian McDonald still on the lead lap. LaFrance got to McDonald on the final lap but Brian managed to hold him off to finish 2nd, almost a full quarter mile behind. Lee Ladouceur, Paul Pekkonen, and Mark Hitchcock rounded out the fast five.
Jason Riddell made his sponsors happy on GT Automotive night as he held off Bob Albright to win the 20 lap Sportsman feature. Riddell led every lap in scoring the win. Track champ Randy Earl was third in front of Chris Herbison and Kees VanWinden. Steve Billings also led all the way keeping Dominic Gauvreau in tow to score top honours in the 15 lap Street Stock event. Charles Barkley, Brock Cullen and Steve Kearney were third through fifth respectively. Josh Kane scored an impressive win in the 16 lap Rookie finale. Jessica Power was runner up with Joe Banks, Adam Trickey and Frank Mitchell Jr. making up the rest of the top five finishers. Luke McKinnon won the 10 lap Vintage event.
The Super DIRT car series for 358 Modifieds comes to Brockville Ontario Speedway for its annual visit on Saturday night, September 15th. It's an important race for those cars following the tour as double points are up for grabs in the 100 lap showdown. Time trials are scheduled for 6:30 pm with the first green flag at 7pm.
