Busses Entertain
Fourteen of the traditional passenger carrying vehicles hit the 1/3 mile clay oval for sometimes three wide competition during the Maestro’s Painting Contactors presentation of the Free Flo Petroleum School Bus Races at Brighton Speedway on September 8th. Repeating their qualifying wins from the first set of races this season were legend of racing Earl Gregory (#22), of Frankford, and well-known driver Jeff Sallans, from Trenton, in the #72. Sallans, who was celebrating his Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week title from Labour Day Classic Weekend, was doing well in the feature when his brakes failed and the blue and white tube he was driving was brought to a stop in the brush next to the Pit Bridge. Sallans was unable to finish the race, and the winner was Bob Greene (#8) of Brighton.
Always a crowd pleaser, the busses helped overfill the stands for the regular classes. Returning to Victory Lane were Phil Potts (#49), of Brighton in the Mister Signz Pure Stock and Charlie Sandercock (#57) of Trenton in the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified. First time wins went to Steve Barber (#80), visiting from Brockville Speedway, in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 and Dave Valleau (#63) in the Quinte Towing Stingers.
The next race event is the much anticipated Eastern Overhead Doors Super Feature Night. Regular admission will have fans on the edge of their seats as the drivers compete for double the points and added laps in all classes. The Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modifieds will run the 50 lap Danny Reid Memorial race. Green Flag flies at 7:00pm.
