Forestville, PA – September 9, 2007 – This past Sunday evening at Big Diamond Raceway, Naftzinger’s Used Auto Parts presented their fifth and final Nutty Buddy Enduro races of the season. Chris Reichert won the 150-lap 6/8 cylinder race worth $500, Jeff Sheetz was the 4 cylinder winner, and JoAnne Cromyak emerged victorious in the 25-lap 6/8 cylinder Powder Puff.
Forty-three cars staged for the extra distance 6/8 cylinder enduro. Doug Naftzinger placed his machine in front for the opening eight laps. Michael Benulis assumed command on lap nine. Benulis and Mike Naftzinger exchanged the top spot a few times before M. Naftzinger secured the position on lap twenty-two.
Bob Engle rolled his machine onto its roof on lap 32, which brought out the red flag. Engle, who drove a Street Stock at BDR several years back, was uninjured in the accident. Two-time feature winner, Mike Reichert, pressured M. Naftzinger for the race lead, and M. Reichert seized command of the pack on lap thirty-six.
Chris Reichert had started the endurance race from twenty-sixth. Shortly upon taking the second spot, Chris battled with his brother Mike for the race lead. C. Reichert utilized the high groove to take the front spot on lap forty-six. The event’s third and final red flag period took place on lap forty-eight for a hard crash involving earlier race leader M. Naftzinger and Mark Paine. No injuries were reported.
C. Reichert continued to set the pace and Keith Owens asserted himself into the runner-up position. Inside the 25-to-go mark, Owens had caught the race leader. The pair raced closely through lapped traffic as the final laps drew to a conclusion. Owens briefly held the lead on lap 148, and C. Reichert regained the spot a lap later.
Under the checkers, C. Reichert (Orwigsburg PA) drove his 1984 Chevy Caprice Classic #327 to his second straight victory of the season. Owens started thirty-second and ended up a close runner-up. Maryland’s Walt Lemmon finished third in only his second visit to the track. Former Roadrunner competitor Shawn Naftzinger ended up fourth and twentieth starter Kevin Brown rounded out the top five.
Jeff Sheetz simply dominated the 4 cylinder Enduro. Sheetz of Macungie PA repeated a performance from the season opener, in which he emerged victorious. Sheetz remained in control throughout the entire 100-lap distance of the contest and drove to a convincing victory behind the wheel of his 1996 Mazda #54.
The battle for the runner-up spot went right down to the wire. Tony Wetzel just held off Jeremy Krauss for the position. The pair had been racing closely for numerous laps. Second generation racer Shaun Miller placed fourth and Wayne Krauss rounded out the front finishing five. Twenty-eight four cylinders started their event.
Jody Brensinger led the opening five laps of the Powder Puff. JoAnne Cromyak was racing through the field and took charge on the sixth lap. Brensinger passed the leader on lap nineteen, however, Brensinger took the spot for keeps on the twentieth circuit. Cromyak remained in control for the final five laps and grabbed the $150 victory.
Following Cromyak (Schuylkill Haven PA) across the finish line were Brensinger, Christine Detweiler, Angela Detweiler, and Elena Reichert.
