In a prelude to a track championship season the following year, Darrell Bossard of Centerville, Pa., scored the win in the 2002 CSOnline Applefest 100 held on Saturday, September 28, 2002. In a race that featured eight lead changes, Bossard took command on the 96th lap when Bruce Smith of Franklin, Pa., lost a tire. The ensuing caution extended the race to 101 laps, but Bossard held off Gary Norman of New Castle, Pa., for the win, which earned Bossard $1,940. Rookie the Race Jason Johns of Oil City, Pa., finished third followed by Rod Laskey of Seneca, Pa., and Dave Willoughby of Warren, Ohio. Bossard is now a Late Model competitor at area tracks.
