Young Stars Hope to Shine during Oct. 10 Jani-King Southern Showdown

Posted by Tom Ames | 09/14/07

CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 13, 2007) - Josh Richards and Austin Dillon,
two of dirt late model racing's rising young stars, are among the
latest
entries for the Oct. 10 Jani-King Southern Showdown at The Dirt Track @
Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Presented by Ferris Commercial Mowers, the World of Outlaws Late
Model Series race kicks off Bank of America 500 Week and features a
possible
$30,000 first-place prize for the winner of the 50-lap feature.
Richards, of Shinnston, W.Va., is a regular with the nomadic World
of Outlaws series. The 19-year-old late model racer is the son of Mark
Richards, co-owner of Mark Richards Racing Enterprises which
manufacturers
the popular Rocket Chassis, and is known to race fans across the
country as
"Kid Rocket."
Richards, who earned the World of Outlaws rookie title in 2005, has
three victories this season and is among the top five in the
championship
chase.
"Lowe's Motor Speedway has an extremely nice facility, but the track
hasn't been good to us. It's not anything about the track, it's been
problems we've had," Richards said. "We're definitely looking to
improve and
I'm looking forward to racing there."
Dillon, the 17-year-old grandson of NASCAR team owner Richard
Childress, thrilled a standing-room-only crowd at The Dirt Track @
Lowe's
Motor Speedway in May when he drove the black No. 3 to victory in the
Goodyear FASTRAK Challenge limited late model race.
Dillon started seventh in the 24-car late model finale that ran in
conjunction with the World of Outlaws Sprint Series. He took the lead
on lap
20 of the 25-lap race following a side-by-side battle with veteran Jack
Pennington and went on to claim the first major victory of his young
racing
career.
Other early entries for the Jani-King Southern Showdown on Wednesday
night, Oct. 10, include NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver Ryan Newman,
Chub
Frank, Mike Balzano, Steve Francis, Steve Shaver, Clint Smith, Earl
Pearson
Jr. and Ricky Weeks.
If purchased in advance, adult tickets for the Jani-King Southern
Showdown on Wednesday night, Oct. 10, are $25 for adults and just $10
for
children 12 and under.
Reserved seats for this race are also available as part of the
four-race $99 SUPER Ticket which includes Bojangles' Pole Night on
Thursday
night, Oct. 11; the Dollar General 300 on Friday night, Oct. 12; and
the
Bank of America 500 on Saturday night, Oct. 13.
Tickets are available online at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com or by
calling the Lowe's Motor Speedway ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS.
