The 2006 CSOnline Applefest 100 ended two hours after the checkered
flag fell at Tri-City Speedway when apparent winner, Alan Dellinger, was
disqualified due to the fact that his Dave McLaughlin-owned machine was
declared to have illegal cylinder heads. As a result, Dave Ferringer
of Cochranton, Pa., collected his second career win in the race run on
Sunday, September 17, 2006. The century event turned out to be one of
the most competitive in race history. In the end, there were eight lead
changes and Ferringer led the final 10 circuits to defeat Gerry Bruce
of Franklin, Pa., for a $1,665 victory. Due to laps led, Bruce earned
$1,575 for second. Bobby Whitling of Seneca, Pa., continued his stellar
career in the Applefest 100 with a third place run followed by Mike
Pegher Jr. of Wexford, Pa., and Rookie of the Race Jackson Humanic of
Titusville, Pa. In the Thundercar Apple Core 20, Eric Goldberg of
Pittsburgh, Pa., captured the victory continuing the dominance established by
drivers from the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Goldberg topped
Robby Torrens of Kennedy Township, Pa., Bill Myers of Seneca, Pa.,
Regina Deloe of Cranberry, Pa., and Curtis J. Bish of Oil City, Pa.
