VERNON , NY- Lake effect rain hit the Utica-Rome Speedway off and on all this past Saturday, September 15, on the 18th running of the Gates-Cole Associates/ Dart Machinery New Yorker 200 but speedway officials were still able to get all the qualifying events run before another late round of showers hit the speedway. With the late hour approaching, rapidly decreasing temperatures, and no end of the drizzle in sight, track management had no choice but to postpone the event until Sunday morning at 10 a.m. The gates will open at 8 a.m.
Seven heats and four consolation races were used to trim the 64 cars that checked in to the 28 car starting field with Pat Ward, Jeff Kotary, Jack Johnson, Todd Burley, Bobby Varin, AJ Romano, and Mike Ricci. Paul Kinney, Jim Davis, Ted Lamb, and Jamie Christian took the consi events.
Bobby Newman, Jim Normoyle, and Roy Fifield were victorious in the Pro Stock heats while Eric Vanderhoof won the lone consolation race.
