ANTIQUE RACE CARS RETURN FOR AN AMERICAN REVOLUTION WEEKEND AT ELDORA
ROSSBURG, OH (Sept. 14) – As has become and Eldora Speedway tradition, members of VARC (Vintage American Race Cars) will trek to the southwestern Ohio speed plant the third weekend of September, with their antique race cars in tow. This year VARC will be included within the Chevy sponsored ‘an American Revolution Weekend’ at Eldora; featuring the World of Outlaw (WoO) Sprints and UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds on Friday night (Sept. 21) and the USAC Four Crown Nationals (Midget, Sprint, Silver Crown) on Saturday night (Sept. 22).
The exhibition of restored vehicles has become extremely popular amongst the fans, as they reminisce and bench race while strolling through the display, which is comprised mostly of open wheeled Midgets and Sprint cars. Many of the member cars have extensive Eldora and USAC history, adding even more to the conversations.
When talking about the Eldora event, VARC president John Lawhorn keeps in mind their mission statement. “Our goal is to keep racing of the past in the public eye, and to educate the public of earlier years of racing. Without a doubt, the prestige of Eldora Speedway is attractive to our membership and each year this is our biggest meet.”
Lawhorn continued, “With an Eldora tie to many of these cars it makes it even more special. When restoring the cars, the owners have dug up as much history as they could and love sharing it with the Eldora faithful.”
VARC will have their cars on display both nights.
