Danny O Brien dominates delighting Brockville faithful

BROCKVILLE-It's been quite a couple of weeks for six time Brockville Ontario Speedway track champion Danny O Brien. The Kingston driver suddenly is the man to beat in 358 DIRT car Modified competition as the Pocket Rocket took his third series race in 8 days on Saturday night leading from start to finish to capture the BOB FM Jack May Pontiac 100 at Brockville Ontario Speedway.

O Brien started on the outside pole alongside DIRT superstar Danny Johnson as the 30 car field took the green flag. O Brien won the drag race into turn 1 and then survived a wacky 17 restarts including a final one with two laps to go that sent the race into overtime. Brother Pat quickly moved through the field from his 11th starting field to grab the second spot in the first half of the race but never could get close enough to track down his brother who just kept running the high groove of the high banked quarter mile oval to perfection. The only two tense moments came when the 2007 BOS track champ had a hard time passing the lapped car of Eric Landry and when brother Pat made a bold inside move on turn 2 on a restart with 25 laps to go but both times Danny was able to prevail.

O Brien admitted in victory lane that he wasn't planning to follow the 358 tour this season but after wins at Edelweiss, Can-Am and now Brockville in the last week, the team is trying to drum up the financial support to do the rest of the races. Johnson held off a fast closing Mark Hitchcock for the third spot with points leader Mario Clair rounding out the top five. Roy Tarbell turned the fast time in time trails for the 100 clocking in at 14.009 seconds.

Jason Riddell is having a pretty good month of September himself as he scored another win in the 20 lap Sportsman event. Riddell rocked out to leads of almost a half a lap at times easily outdistancing Sheldon Hoogwerf, Randy Earl, Matt Billins and Tyler Rand. Josh Kane got the break he needed when Adam Trickey's tire went flat while leading, Kane took over the lead and led the rest of the way to take the 16 lap Rookie feature. Track champ Jessica Power was second with Pernie Banks, Frank Mitchell Jr. and Dwight Feltham making up the rest of the fast five. Dominic Gauvreau managed to hold off a constant challenge from Steve Billings for the entire 15 laps to score his first Brockville win in the Street Stock division. Billy Code, Steve Kearney and Barry Baker were third through fifth respectively.

Brockville Ontario Speedway closes out it's 2007 season with the annual Kanes Towing Monster Enduro on Sunday, September 23rd. The event features 4, 6 and 8 cylinder cars in action with the first green flag at 1pm.
