Ontario Dirt Late Models Return to Brighton Speedway
This weekend marks the return of full fendered, extreme horse powered Super Late Models as they converge on Brighton Speedway for the special Applefest Shootout, slated for September 21 -22nd. Most teams will travel over 5 hours to Brighton Speedway this weekend. as teams will be coming from the Windsor-Chatham area, Port Colborne area, Quebec and some possible entrants from NY and PA.
The only driver not travelling a huge distance will be local favorite Paul Turner from Picton, Ontario. Paul was a former track champion at Brighton Speedway as well as multiple winner of the former Can-Am Late Model Challenge Series. Paul will be driving the 92T Mastersbuilt Late Model, owned by friends Debbie & Charles Brush of Blenheim, Ont.
On Friday Night Smileys Independent Grocers presents Holiday Inn $5 Friday, with racing to include the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup plus qualifying heats for all regular classes. The Late Models will be given the opportunity to take to the track for some open hot lap sessions. This is all in preparation for Saturday, when the crowd will be treated to the Ontario Dirt Late Models 30 lap feature event, the Justin Turner Memorial Race. Coming off of a successful event at Humberstone Speedway on August 5th, the Ontario Dirt Late Models are expecting a good car count for this Brighton event that is sanctioned under UMP rules. The regular Late Model runners that belong to the UMP organization will be looking to add valuable points to their totals. They have only this race at Brighton Speedway and the Canadian Late Model Shootout at South Buxton Raceway (September 29th) left to add to their points for the Ontario title. Five drivers are in contention for the Ontario Championship and are expected to attend. They include Andrew Reaume, Dale Glassford, Joe Field, Brett Reaume and Jim Dale Jr. Also on the line is a 2008 Rocket chassis. This will be awarded by an elimination draw at the Christmas party on December 1st. Attendance at the 2 ODLM racing events, as well as the party, determines the number eligible! Right now, it stands as a 1 in 29 chance of winning that chassis
The major title sponsor of the Saturday night race Late Model event is Hino Trucks of Ottawa and Kingston and they will be represented well by company owner Peter Mantha. Peter will be piloting his #1 Hino sponsored Late Model and hails from Gatineau, Quebec.
Also added to the ticket for Saturday Night is the much anticipated Imagefactor.ca presentation of the 358 Modified Applefest Shootout , the Lucas Oil Clash for Cash and the final points night for our regular Brighton Speedway drivers! The schedule is packed with so much gear grinding, dirt flying, pedal to the metal racing that the green flag is set to fly one hour earlier at 6:00 PM Saturday. Camping is available on site.
