Annual Enduro at Edelweiss
By Martin Bélanger
Cantley, PQ – Sunday, September 16, 2007 – It was the annual enduro on this beautiful Sunday afternoon at Edelweiss Speedway after it was postponed from Saturday for bad weather. Again this year, many cars were present and the stands were packed to enjoy this very entertaining afternoon.
The 4 cylinders were first on the track with a 50-lap feature race with over 80 cars on the track; the fans were pretty pleased by all the action that these drivers offered to them. Despite this many cars, a lot of them were able to complete the whole distance with John Benard winning the race, he was followed by Serge Bédard in second and Steve Bérubé in third.
The 6 and 8 cylinders were next on the track with their 100-lap finale. With nearly 60 cars registered, only about a dozen of cars finished the feature because of the banging and crashing all around the track. Benoit Nadon who is an enduro regular won the race, François Lacelle finished second, followed by Steve Young in third, Nicolas Gauvreau in fourth and Martin Robertson rounding out the top 5.
The afternoon was completed by the ladies race which they had a 25-lap feature race. A good showing of 22 cars were on the track with Zaelle Trudeau winning the race, Christine Lebeau followed her. This powder puff race is always amusing and some the ladies can wheel a car on track.
It is a total of 140 cars that registered for this event, which is always really popular and is a very family oriented venue. Do not miss the last race night of the 2007 season as the Empire Super Sprints will be at Edelweiss to make up their postpone show of August 17. The semi-pro and 4 cylinders classes will also be on the card on this great night.
