Final Full Point Weekend for the Empire Super Sprints: $2,000 to win at Edelweiss and the Points Championship Decided at Frogtown.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 25th season for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) started back in May and the Tour brought to you by Jacobs Motorsports will bring down the full point season this weekend at Autodrome Edelweiss Speedway this Friday followed the final event Saturday at the Frogtown International Speedway.

Coming into the weekend, Steve Poirier, who successfully defended his Canadian Sprint Car Nationals title, has a good sized point lead over Jeff VanDusen. While it will be an uphill climb for VanDusen, he still has a shot to finally break the VanDusen bridesmaid results. Jeff has been runner-up in points the past two years while his father Mike has done the same on three occasions.

Back on August 17th, Mother Nature claimed the A-Main victory at Edelweiss. With an open slot this Friday, the final of two visits to the fast 1/3rd mile oval located just North of Ottawa will be held and it will also bring down the Lucas Oil Canadian Invasion Point Series where $5,000 will be handed out to the top ten drivers. With great support from Mike and Lori Lasalle, the 25 lap A-Main will pay the winner $2,000 to win and with the added travel tow bonus it will also pay $375 to take the green.

Back on July 13th Jeff Cook made a late race pass of Tommy Wickham to pick up the first of his two victories so far in the ’07 season. Michael Parent, Mike Stelter and Poirier rounded out the top five. All these stars along with Canadian favorites Alain Bergeron, Brian McDonald, Rick Wilson, Chris Jones and many more will be on hand for the big event.

The points for the Lucas Oil title is much closer going into this final event with Poirier holding a slim 18 point lead on VanDusen with Lance Yonge, Bergeron and Wickham also having a chance to claim the Invasion trophy.

The next night its back across the border to the Akwesasne reservation in Hogansburg, N.Y. and the fast half-mile know as “The Frog”, the Frogtown Int’l Speedway. The July 14th event fell to the same victor as the second Edelweiss visit with Mother Nature claiming the checkered flag. With that rain out, a big crowd and big field of sprints are expected to bring down the Jacobs Motorsports Tour. Fans can expect other ESS stars such as Bubby Kerrick, Justin Barger, Cory Sparks, Jessica Zemken, Russ Bennett, Jared Zimbardi as well as a few other surprises.

While the Fall Foliage is ready to great all in the North East and Canada, it will be like “Summer Heat” this weekend at Edelweiss and Frogtown. The stars and cars of the Empire Super Sprints closing down the point season and fighting for over $30,000 in cash point funds. Sept. 21 and 22, Quebec and New York, it will be excitement guaranteed!
