BRIAN SEIDEL LEADS WIRE-TO-WIRE & POCKETS $2,500 FOR HIS 22ND CAREER URC
BAR'S LEAKS SPRINT SERIES VICTORY SATURDAY NIGHT
DELMAR, DE . . . . . Brian Seidel of Allentown, PA pretty
much smoked the field to win the 25 lap URC BAR'S Leaks Sprint Series
feature event Saturday night at the Delaware International. Seidel, the
2000 URC Champion, drove a flawless race behind the wheel of the Guy
Howie owned 19H sprint car leading every lap on his way to his first win
of the season and twenty-second career URC feature win. Seidel won his
heat race and the feature event and collected a hefty $500 bonus posted
by CnB Mushrooms pushing his earnings to $2,500 for the nights work.
With twenty-four URC events presented so far this season, Seidel became
the eighteenth different feature winner on Saturday night.
Another strong field of twenty-nine URC sprint cars turned out for the
Taylor & Messick Delaware State Sprint Series event with heat race
victories going to Brian Seidel, Becca Anderson and Joey Biasi as Josh
Weller won the Don Ott sponsored by "B" Main.
A field of twenty-four URC sprint cars took the green in the feature
event with Brian Seidel jumping out to the early lead. Becca Anderson
and fourth place started Curt Michael were in the chase followed by
Scott Pursell and Kyle Purks. Seidel established a solid lead and Becca
Anderson had second in control as Curt Michael was in a strong chase
after the two front runners. Scott Pursell ran in fourth until lap six
when Randy West took over fourth and went to work reeling in Curt
Michael.
By lap ten, Randy West and the Elmer Stoltzfus owned sprinter were
racing in third and gaining on runner-up Becca Anderson, driving the
BAR'S Leaks Sprint car. At the halfway point of the race, Seidel,
Anderson, West, Michael and Scott Pursell made up the five. As the
second half of the feature began to unfold, the leaders quickly saw
lapped traffic just ahead. The top three were now racing under a
blanket and on lap sixteen, West moved into second and began pulling
closer to the leader in hopes of setting up a late race challenge.
With just five laps to go, Davey Sammons had a awesome ride going as he
moved into fifth with Kramer Williamson in sixth. For the final laps,
Seidel was holding off the challenges of Randy West and Curt Michael as
Sammons was in a tug-of-war battle for position with Becca Anderson.
A fine run for Scott Pursell came to an end on lap twenty-four when
mechanical problems brought him to a stop in turn four after running
sixth.
On the restart, Seidel only had one more perfect lap to drive and his
goal was to hold off Randy West and current URC point leader Curt
Michael. As Seidel held off West, Michael now found himself defending
the third spot as Sammons was in challenging distance. On that final
lap, fifth place runner Becca Anderson spun after contact with Kramer
Williamson. Anderson spun with Williamson advancing to fifth.
At the drop of the checker flag, Seidel was the big winner with Randy
West crossing the line in second with Curt Michael third, Davey Sammons
fourth and Kramer Williamson. The top four feature finishers retired to
the pits for post race teching. Seidel past the teching procedure
without issue, however, the same could not be said for Randy West and
the Elmer Stoltzfus owned sprinter. An infraction with the heads forced
an immediate disqualification for the West/Stoltzfus Team.
Seidel was the feature winner over second place runner Curt Michael as
Davey Sammons delivered a strong third with Kramer Williamson fourth and
Robbie Stillwaggon fifth
