Arpin Proposes After Victory On Night #1 of Heartland Nationals

High winds kept the crowd down slightly while the drivers showed up in force for night #1 of the WISSOTA Heartland Nationals at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley for the final weekend of racing action the high banked speedplant.



The WISSOTA Street Stocks took to the track for their feature action first with Cory Crapser jumping out to an early lead while a three wide race for fourth was waged early. Danny Hanson moved into second quickly and Chanda Fjorden Nord into the third spot. Ryan Goergen moved into fourth early with Jeff Nelson running fifth. Tyler Viltz started pressuring Nelson for fifth with twelve to go. Corey Rosen sat behind the duo as he waited for them to decide their battle. Nine laps to go and Crapser held a three-quarter straight lead as a caution flew with eight to go. On the restart Hanson and Fjorden Nord were racing for second as Crapser rockets back out front. Rosen worked past Nelson late in the race with AJ Zvorak working into past Nelson while Goergen slid back out of the top five. At the line it was Crapser with the win, Hanson second, Fjorden Nord third while Rosen and Zvorak rounded out the top five.



A complete restart was needed for the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature race. After 51 cars checked into the back gate Jerry Young led the feature out of two with Brandon Davis in second. Jimmie Arnold moved up to challenge Davis for second early while Kenny Wytaske, Dan Wheeler and Brady Peterson raced for fourth. Another caution with fourteen to go saw the same battles shake up out of two. This time Davis was able to shake off Arnold and pulled alongside of Young for the lead. Wheeler took over third with tne to go while Young and Davis still raced side by side. Over the remaining nine circuits Davis and Young continued to race side by side in a great battle for the win. Wheeler ran well in second while Greg Pfeifer Jr. worked his way up through the field to move into fourth after starting tenth. Young continued to hold a slight lead and took home the win by a half car over Davis.



A star studded field of WISSOTA Super Stock drivers showed up to race on this night with thirty four drivers checking into the back gate. Jeff Tardy started on the outside of the front row and took the early lead with Dustin Nelson in second and Tim Johnson in third. With five laps completed Tardy cruised out to a good lead as the next six cars raced tight around the speedway. Nelson and Johnson raced for second with Curt Meyers working through the field. Johnson took over second with thirteen to go while Nelson started to slowly drift back through the field. Meyers took over third from Nelson whle Jeff Lien worked forward and took over the fourth spot.A restart with ten to go saw Johnson and Meyers racing side by side for second. Donnie Lofdahl found the high side of the speedway to his liking and started to fly around the track working up from tenth to fifth late in the race. Johnson, Meyers and Lien had a great race for the final five laps with each driver crossing the line in second as they ran two and three wide to the stripe. At the finish it was Tardy with the win, Johnson second, Meyers third while Lien and Lofdahl rounded out the top five.



Steve Arpin had the lead as the WISSOTA Modifieds pulled out of turn tow with mark Noble moving into second. Behind the lead duo Billy Byholm, Brad Waits, Les Duellman and Joey Jensen raced for third. In two laps Jensen took over third with Duellman fourth and Waits and Mike Sorensen in fifth and sixth flying high up against the wall on the speedway. Jensen pulled alongside of Noble in a race for second with fourteen to go while Arpin pulled out to a full straight away lead. Byholm was working on trying to get past Duellman for fourth and exiting two the two touched. Aprin took off on the restart and was not rattled as Noble and Jensen raced for second. Jensen took over 2nd with five to go. Sorensen finished fifth behind Waits, Noble and Jensen. Arpin was extremely fast and took home the win. In victory lane we all understood why he was driving so hard. During the victory lane interview Arpin proposed to his girlfriend Trina and now the two are engaged to be married.
