Jensen Tops WISSOTA Mods at Deer creek

By Bill Nelson

September 22, 2007

Spring Valley MN

After Friday night’s breezy conditions Saturday night was a perfect night to be at a racetrack with temps in the low 80’s at start time and very little breeze the drivers came out in droves for the final race of 2007.

With a freshly redone track the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds pulled onto the track with Kenny Wytaske taking the lead out of turn two. Joel Alberts moved into second and kept the pressure on Wytaske early. Behind Alberts Jerry Young and Brandon Davis raced for third while most of the field still ran two and three wide around the speedway. With thirteen laps left Alberts was still on Wytaske’s rear bumper with Young and Davis still locked up side by side for third. Behind them Dan Wheeler was looking for passing room. Two laps later Davis finally took over third and on the next lap passed Alberts for second when he pushed up hard in two. A restart with eight to go bunched the field back up. Davis was ready on the restart and pulled alongside of Wytaske for the lead. The two raced side by side for three laps until Wytaske took the lead. Chris Adams moved into third late in the race working past Wheeler and Alberts. Wytaske came home with the win followed by Davis and Adams.

Corey Rosen Jumped out to the early lead in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature with Cory Crapser and Dave Rohweder in second and third. Rohweder had the line early as he took over the lead on lap two running lower than the rest of the field. Crapser quickly took over second and kept pressuring on the top side. Danny Hanson moved into fourth as the rest ran green white checker tonight. With half of the race completed the top four pulled away steadily while Crapser worked on Rohweder for the lead. Exiting turn two Crapser got under Rohweder and into three drove it hard and let it drift up. Rohweder drove back under as they entered turn one. As they made the exit of turn two with four to go Crapser took control and never looked back taking home the win.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks had a wild one tonight with most of the racing on the lower part of the track but they spent a lot of time three and four wide. Kurt Kromschroeder took the early lead with Ryan Siegle sitting in second. Jason Gabrielson jumped up against the wall and blasted his way into third early. Four completed and Siegle was working hard at getting past Kromschroder. John Feirn raced with Gabrielson for third with Cale Berry joining in on the race. A restart with seven completed saw Kromschroder leading. Dustin Nelson, Feirn and Berry where three wide for fourth now with Nelson taking the spot. Ten to go and Nelson worked into second. The last seven laps saw the racing action get tighter as Tim Johnson and Jeff Tardy worked their way up from midpack to inside the top five. Nelson moved past Kromschroeder to take over the lead with three to go. A restart with three to go saw Nelson leading, Berry running a close second and Johnson and Tardy working past Kromschroder to take home the third and fourth place finishing positions. Nelson won with Berry a close second.

Jeff Spacek led the WISSOTA Modifieds to the green with Joey Jensen in second. Steve Arpin and Brad Waits were racing for fourth behind Jason Miller. Four laps completed Waits took over third from Miller as Jensen worked on Spacek for the lead. Arpin followed Waits and the two now raced side by side on the leaders bumper. With eighteen to go Arpin, Jensen and Spacek went three wide into one which resulted in the yellow hanky waving. On the restart Jensen took the elad with Arpin in second. Arpin pushed up the track with fifteen to go allowing Waits to move into second while Bill Byholm also worked past him for the third spot. The rest of the race spread out as the field migrated to the top of the track with Jensen taking home the win, Waits second and Byhom third.
