Chris "Fergy Time" Ferguson Takes FASTRAK Victory at Carolina Speedway
September 21, 2007
Gastonia, NC…Young Chris Ferguson took home his first FASTRAK Late
Model Series victory of the 2007 season on Friday night at Gastonia
Speedway. In the effort to do so, Ferguson beat some of the best
including John Pursley, Rambo Franklin, Ron Parker, and Buddy Smith
among with many others in the Southern/Mid East combination event.
Although Ferguson has experienced an up and down year with the
Touring division of the series, tonight it was the #22 all the way.
The TOP 12 Qualifiers were locked into the Main event. Following the
qualifying efforts of the 34-car field, three heats were ran in which
the top 4 from each heat transferred to the main event, then a 8 lap
consolation race with 2 cars transferring into the main as well.
Transferring to Main
Heat 1: 51 of Brandon Haley, 25 Matt Long, 99 AJ Watson, 90 of John
Llewellyn.
Heat 2: 187 of David McCoy, 46 Will Shuffler, 16b Brandy Baker, 74 of
Joey McCoy.
Consi: 57 Lee Cooper, 26 Johnny Raines. 8 of Chris Chandler- 88 of
Vic Chandler transferred through provisionals.
The main event got underway as the Teams lined up for the FASTRAK
Four-Wide Salute; the fireworks went off as the teams waved to the
fans. No one truly knew the battle they were about to witness right
before their eyes. The 6-car invert was about to take place as
the "six lucky kids" came to the front straight to draw starting
positions for the first three rows. John Pursley took the GM
Performance Parts "TOP GUN" award sitting a blistering time of
17:569.
The lead was changed between Pursley and Ferguson with Johnny
Pursley, Buddy Smith, Billy Thompson and Ron Parker forever haunting
the top two. Johnny Pursley in the #09 experienced some body damage
that has pushed into his tire. Parker and "Big John" Pursley got
together coming off turn four which ended up with the 9 of Pursley
going to the rear from the incident. Pursley did make his way from
the rear to finish 8th.
