FREMONT, Ohio (Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007) - Though the 2007 season
has just been completed, work is already underway on improvements at
Fremont Speedway for next year.
Thanks to support from Sherman-Williams Paint Stores of Fremont,
Painting has begun on the historic covered grandstands with more sprucing up
Planned for other areas of the "The Track That Action Built,"
Including buildings, guardrails, the flag stand, etc.
"We approached Sherwin-Williams about getting involved and they were
Very enthusiastic," said new Fremont promoter Rich Farmer.
Since taking over the historic speedway less than three weeks ago,
Farmer and his partner, Andy James, have been hard at work contacting
sponsors and putting plans in place for the 2008 racing season.
"We already have a lot of support from the area business community.
We have many of our race night sponsors in place and have a good start
on our billboard business partners," said Farmer. "That credit goes to the
fans...their loyalty to the businesses that support racing makes that
possible. The businesses see the value of their sponsorship."
"Jim Ford has built a solid, trusting relationship in the business
community and he has helped us tremendously on that end," Farmer
continued.
Farmer has already met with representatives of the dirt truck
division to discuss rules and possible changes for 2008. He plans to discuss the issues impacting 410 sprints and 305 sprint teams in the coming months.
"Andy and I agreed we want to work very closely with John Bores, Rex
LeJeune and what they have going at Attica Raceway Park," said
Farmer.
As for the clay oval itself, Farmer said nothing will be done until
the spring thaw. "We have some improvements planned for the track, but
nothing major," he said.
