IRA FINALE, FILSKOV MEMORIAL SET FOR SATURDAY
Plymouth, WI The 2007 Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints season
Concludes this Saturday night, September 29th, with the traditional
curtain closer, The Frank Filskov Memorial Fall Classic. A fan
favorite, the Sheboygan County Fair Park in Plymouth, Wisconsin has been the annual site of this race. The Filskov Memorial event was first run in 1997 as a tribute to long time IRA racer Frank Filskov, who lost his life while competing in the World of Outlaws portion of the IRA co-sanctioned US Dirt Nationals at Hartford (MI) Speedway back in October of 1996. The race which is traditionally the final point race on the IRA schedule is extremely presigeous to the IRA contingent, as the group pays tribut to one of its' own.
The 2007 edition of the Filskov event will not only be Championship
night for the IRA, but also for the Wisconsin Dirt Late Model Association as they join the sprints in what has become a popular season finale combo. The Grand Nationals, a favorite weekly class at Plymouth, have also been added to this very special race night. A rain-date of Sunday September 30th has been secured. Adult tickets are only $18. Hot Laps are set to get underway at 5:30, followed by IRA qualifying. Travis Whitney heads into the event as defending IRA Champion and current point leader. Title contenders Mike Reinke and Scotty Neitzel trail.
Ironically Billy Hafemann will honored in front of his "home track"
fans as IRA Rookie of the Year, having moved up to 410 IRA Outlaw Sprint ranks after cutting his racing teeth as a weekly competitor in Plymouth's Super Modified class
The IRA is hosting a Golf Outing Sunday, September 30th, at the Golf
Club @ Camelot in Lomira, WI at12 Noon. Additional players are welcome and should contact IRA President Steve Sinclair (815-759-9269) if interested. With Whitney hailing from Minnesota, and much of his IRA point rivals from Wisconsin, the Vikings - Packers game being shown in the clubhouse may have more implications than usual.
