THURSDAY PORTION OF VICTORIA 200 WEEKEND CANCLELLED & NOT RESCHEDULED
FULTON, NY – Heavy rains moved into the Central New York area late Thursday afternoon forcing Fulton Speedway race officials to completely cancel the racing scheduled for this evening to kick off the 22nd Annual Victoria 200 Weekend. A bleak forecast and continued heavy rains for the rest of the night sealed the decision. The World Products IMCA Modified Empire State Series Race, 36-lap ESDCA Doug Cooper Memorial event, and the Victoria 200 Rules Modified Mini-Series 35-lap special will not be rescheduled.
The decision comes after a 90 minute debate among all of track management who worked through every possible scenario for everyone involved. The best and fairest decision, after much discussion, was to completely cancel the Thursday show. Those who bought 3 day tickets may receive a refund for the Thursday portion of the program ($12).
With the cancellation of the Victoria 200 Rules Mini-Series event, Fulton Speedway Victoria Mini-Series point leader Billy Decker becomes the second of only two guaranteed starters for the Victoria 200. Jimmy Phelps, who was the Victoria Mini-Series points champion from Brewerton Speedway, will be the other guaranteed starter.
The 22nd Annual Victoria 200 Weekend will now kick off on the traditional Friday date tomorrow on September 28. Fulton Speedway’s weekly support divisions will take center stage with the Gater Racing News / Motorsports Expo 2008 Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series 30-lapper plus the Leaf Racewear Pro Stock Super DIRTcar Series 30 and the Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Super Series 30. Hot laps for the Modifieds will also be held in final preparation for the Victoria 200.
Saturday is set for the granddaddy of them all, the famous fall classic held annually at Fulton Speedway known as the “Victoria 200”. Saturday will feature nothing but the Modifieds with the grandstand area drivers meeting / heat draw, heat races, consolations, All-Star Last Chance Race, and the $25,000 plus to win Victoria 200. Sunday September 30 is set aside as the weekend raindate for the Victoria 200 itself.
