NATIONAL QUARTER MILE DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND QUICKLY APPROACHING ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12TH AND SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13TH. SIX TOUR TITLES ON THE LINE OVER TWO DAYS OF RACING.

KIRKWOOD, NY…The annual National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend is just around the corner at Five Mile Point Speedway. The two days of racing on Friday, October 12th and Saturday, October 13th will see six tour titles decided. The 37th Southern Tier 100 for Modifieds will highlight the weekend on Saturday.

This year’s National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend will be the biggest ever at the historic quarter mile oval. On Friday, October 12th the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Sportsman Tour will take center stage with a 100 lap tour ending finale. Danny Creeden will be looking to win his second consecutive tour title as he currently leads the overall point standings over Fonda Speedway regular Jeremy Wilder and southern tier stars Joey Colsten and Mike Loney. The 100 lap special is the longest distance race of the season for the Sportsman teams with the winner set to earn $2,000 for the victory.

Friday night Sportsman teams will also be eligible for a $250 bonus in the Southern Tier Modified 100 on Saturday.

The STAR Series between Five Mile Point Speedway and Penn Can Speedway will culminate on Friday night with a 40 lap Modified special paying $2,000 to win. Sail panels will be allowed in this Southern Tier Open event. Sixty-seven year old driver Carl Nagel is currently tied with Joey Grammes for the STAR Series Championship. It will all come down to this final event on Friday, October 12th at the Point. The popular Lightning Cats and A League of Their Own will also join the huge Friday night of racing.

The Saturday, October 13th schedule can only be described as a race fans dream. Two big race programs are slated for the same day with “pay one price” admission allowing spectators to take in all of the action. The early program begins at 2 p.m. with the Dart Northeast Pure Stock Championship, Keystone Legends Car Point Championship and Trackside Products Pro Stock Tour Championships. Three titles will be decided before the night racing program even gets underway.

At 5:15 p.m. the night time racing program will get underway with the 37th running of the Southern Tier 100 for Modifieds. The race winner will earn $5,000 for the victory with a number of special incentives being posted as well. The CRSA Sprint Cars will make their return along with the final point race of the 2007 Empire State IMCA Modified tour.

The Southern Tier 100 will determine the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Tour overall Champion for 2007. Pat Ward and Ronnie Johnson are in a tremendous battle for the overall crown. For the teams in competition there are several special incentives that have been posted. A $1,000 bonus is up for grabs to any driver that can win both the STAR Series 40 on Friday and the Southern Tier 100 on Saturday. Last year Danny Johnson performed the feat by winning both Modified events over the two days.

Dale and Sue Smith Photography are offering up a $500 bonus to the leader of lap 50 in the Southern Tier 100 as well. This year that lap will have even greater significance as the race will be halted on lap 50. A five minute refueling stop will be allowed on lap 50 as many of the invading Pennsylvania teams will need this to go the entire 100 lap distance.

Five Mile Point Speedway owner Andrew Harpell has also posted a $250 bonus to the top finishing speedway regular that competes in the Friday STAR Series event and the Southern Tier 100 on Saturday.

For race fans the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend is a must see. The Saturday format will allow spectators to pick and choose the racing that they want to see all for the “pay one price” format. With six touring titles on the line the importance of this weekend is certainly huge for the teams racing for their respective touring championships.
