13th ANNUAL SPRINT CHALLENGE AT THE WHEELS SET FOR SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6
The Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge, NY will host the 13th Annual
Sprint Challenge at the Wheels co-sanctioned by the URC and ESS Sprints
on Saturday night, October 6. This event is open to all 360 Sprints and
is expected to again draw a large field of competitors. As many as six
heat races and three "B" Main events are expected to determine the
starting field for the twenty-five lap $3,000 to win Sprint Challenge at
the Wheels feature event. Pit gates will open at 2 PM with racing set
to begin at 7 PM.
This event is rich in history, starting way back in 1994 when ESS driver
Craig Keel won the inaugural event. Keel returned the following year to
claim back-to-back victories. In 1996 and 1997, URC ace Kramer
Williamson scored both wins as ESS driver Dan Kaszubinski won in 1998.
Williamson returned to victory lane in the Sprint Challenge event in
1999 as Becca Anderson became the first female racer to win this annual
prestigious event in 2000.
Rick Wilson claimed the victory on behalf of ESS in 2001 and we can't
help but remember that drive by Kyle Drum in 2002. Drum, representing
ESS, started deep in the pack after running the "B" Main and charged to
the front to claim the Challenge victory in 2002. In 2003, URC's Pete
Green was the winner as Trevor Lewis took top honors in 2004 for URC.
In 2005, rain forced the event to be cancelled and in 2006, a unique
combination saw Chuck Heibing of the Patriot Sprints take the win,
driving the sprint car owned by Guy Howie of URC.
