Broderick Dethrones Goodwin and Collects Bounty at SSP’s Pumpkin 200 on Saturday Afternoon; Brown, Campbell, Engle and Sipe also Victorious

Newberrytown, PA (October 6, 2007) - The 3rd Annual Pumpkin 200 on Saturday afternoon at the Susquehanna Speedway Park had 34 Xtreme Stock Car bounty hunters looking to dethrone SSP Enduro King, Michael Goodwin from his throne. Donnie Broderick was able to do that and pick up the $1,000-to-win bounty by edging Goodwin at the line by a car length. Bill Brown, Sr. won the Classic Car feature and Bob Campbell won the PENNMAR Vintage Car feature. Daryl Sipe picked up the Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van feature event. Ben Engle won the Great American School Bus race.

Before the race began, a there was a $1,000-to-win bounty on Michael Goodwin. Goodwin has won the 3 out of 4 Enduro races held at SSP during the last 3 years. The only stipulation to collect the bounty was that he had to finish the event. If Goodwin won, he would have received a $200 bonus on top of the posted purse payout for the number of entries. Goodwin was required to start last in the 150 lap race. The race was also reduced from its traditional 200 laps to 150 laps due to rising fuel costs for the competitors.

When the green flag dropped, Donnie Broderick jumped out to the early lead from the outside front row. He led the first 4 laps until Bill Powell grabbed the lead away from him. Powell continued to set the pace over the next 28 laps. Meanwhile Brian Rehbein started 22nd and took the lead from Powell on the 33rd circuit of the race. Rehbein set a commanding pace through the halfway point over Powell and Broderick. On lap 91, Broderick regained the lead from Rehbein who continued to settle for second for the time being. However, on lap 103, Rehbein developed mechanical problems and finally retired from the event on lap 124.

As the action continued, Broderick continued to lead over Powell, but Goodwin who started last moved into the picture. He began reeling in Broderick every lap and finally took the lead on lap 121 when Broderick was pinched in behind two lapped cars. Broderick fell back a quarter of a lap, but never gave up. Just as it looked like Goodwin would win yet again, he suffered the same fate as Broderick earlier in the race and lost the lead to Broderick on lap 140. Goodwin battled back and reeled in Broderick again on the final 10 circuits, but at the finish he came up about one car length short to pick up the win. Although there was contact between Broderick and Goodwin as the exited turn four on the last lap, Broderick held on for the win and collected the $1,000 bounty. Goodwin finished second with Bill Powell finishing third, who also remained on the lead lap. Finishing one lap down in fourth and fifth were Larry Landis and Matt Smith.

Bill Brown Sr. wired the field from start to finish in the 15-lap Classic Car feature event to win the race. Joe Snodgrass finished second, followed by Al Daniels, Brian Diehl and Glenn Elliott.

Bob Campbell also wired the field in the 15-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car feature event to pick up the win over Bob Casti, Paul Bacchus, Craig Coghill and Alan Pahulick.

In the 10-lap Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van feature, Butch Richcreek, Jr. took the lead on the ninth circuit to win his 6th win of the season over Brandon Ort, Scott Hughes, Daryl Sipe and Jeff Svendsen.

In the 10-lap Great American School Bus race, Van Baker jumped out to the early lead, but it was Ben Engle taking the lead and the victory on lap four over Baker and Deanna Frye.

The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road , then 1.3 miles south.
