RACE OF CHAMPIONS DART DIRT TOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE DECIDED THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY.
KIRKWOOD, NY…The Race of Champions Dart Dirt Tours for Sportsman and Modifieds will take center stage this Friday and Saturday at Five Mile Point Speedway as part of the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend. Both tour championship titles will be up for grabs with the Sportsman running a 100 lap special on Friday and the Modifieds running in the 37th Southern Tier Open on Saturday.
On Friday the NQMDTC Weekend goes green with the final point race for the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Sportsman Tour. The Sportsman will get a rare opportunity to compete in a 100 lap event. The race will pay $2,000 to the winner and it will determine the 2007 tour title. Currently Defending RoC Sportsman Tour Champion Dan Creeden leads the point chase by fifteen markers over Penn Can Speedway star Mike Loney. Five Mile Point Speedway competitor Joey Colsten sits in third in the point standings with Fonda Speedway star Jeremy Wilder and Utica Rome ace Casey Williams rounding out the top five. All five have a mathematical chance of winning the title on Friday.
Joining the RoC Dart Sportsman on Friday will be the 40 lap STAR Series finale for Modifieds. The 40 lap special will pay $2,000 to the winner. Sail panels will be allowed for this event as well on the Modifieds. Currently southern tier veteran chauffeur Carl Nagel is tied for the point lead with Penn Can star Joey Grammes. Five Mile Point Speedway Track Champion Jim Crawn sits only one point out of first place entering the finale. He and Nagel are hoping that their home track advantage pays dividends on Friday night. The evening will be concluded with a Lightning Cat feature and A League of Their Own. Racing starts at 7 p.m.
Saturday’s racing action will feature two entirely distinct racing programs. At 2 p.m. the Dart Pure Stock Tour, Keystone Legends Car Championship and Trackside Pro Stock Tour will go racing. The night event will feature the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour finale with the running of the Southern Tier 100. The IMCA Modified Empire State Championship and CRSA Sprints will be in competition. Racing starts at 6 p.m. for the night race. Spectators can take in both racing programs for one low price.
The Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour title will be decided with the running of the 37th Annual Southern Tier 100. The race will pay $5,000 to the winner with a number of sizeable bonuses also up for grabs. Last year Danny Johnson swept the weekend including the 100 lapper. He currently sits 5th in the RoC point standings. Northern New York star Pat Ward took advantage of a late season surge to move in to the tour point lead entering the finale. He won the last RoC event at Five Mile Point in August with his teammate Billy Decker taking the win in the July RoC special at the Point. Both are already entered for this Saturday night. Eastern New York star Ronnie Johnson sits in second place with local star Brian Weaver currently in third. Semi Five Mile Point regular Stewart Friesen is in fourth in the overall point race.
This year’s NQMDTC weekend will be huge as six touring titles will be decided over two days of racing this Friday and Saturday. For complete information please visit the Five Mile Point Speedway website at www.fivemilepointspeedway.net or phone 607-775-5555. |
