“I really like it here, I still call it my home” says Howard on the winners podium. “I had a lucky weekend, starting up front really helps on a day race like this” explains Howard to announcer Jeff Ahlum as he accepts his 2nd big payday check.
Duane’s dart found the balloon carrying the 1 starting spot for the feature redraw to start on the pole of the Atlantic Coast 50 lap feature at Bridgeport speedway on Sunday. At the drop of the green with Howard on the pole and #0 of Doug Hoffman sitting on the outside, Howard quickly jumped to the front of the field with #0 Doug Hoffman, #51m of Keith Hoffman, #711 of Mike Iles and #901 Richie Pratt rounding out the top 5. Several early race yellows bunched up the field but Howard was able to hold of any restart challenges in order to stay out front. Billy Pauch capitalized on the restarts to quickly move into the top 6 from his 9th starting spot. The battle on the track became the Hoffman & Hoffman show as brothers Keith and Dough put on a 2 wide show dueling for the 2nd spot till lap 10. Keith wins the battle as #85 of Wade Hendrickson soon jumps into the mix passing #51m of Hoffman to take the second spot in turns 1&2 as Brother Doug gets a soft right rear. A yellow flies on lap 11 for a 4 car tangle involving #43 of Jimmy Horton IV, #92 of Scott Irwin, #44 of Jimmy Chester and the #11A of Jim Wyers in turns 3&4. On the lap 11 restart, Howard is still the leader with Hendrickson now in 2nd, Keith Hoffman 3rd, #901 of Richie Pratt Jr 4th and #1 of Billy Pauch 5th. Howard jumps back out to the lead with Hendrickson & Pratt following single file. Pauch and Pratt exit 4 2-wide down the fronts stretch going into turns 1&2 side by side. Another yellows drops from a 3-wide situation between #19 of Brian Kressley, #711x of Eric Kormann in the Iles back up and Ron Robert’s #14. Roberts gets the short end on the stick on the turn 2 exit clipping the front stretch outside wall bringing out yet another yellow. #0 of Hoffman makes it back out onto the track changing a right rear before the new yellow flies to join the rear of the field. For the restart of lap 12, Howard continues as leader followed by Hendrickson and Hoffman. Pauch and Pratt continue to 2wide battle off the corners with Pauch coming out ahead bring with him #126 of Jeff strung into the top 5 sending Pratt back to 6th. Field gets bunched up again for a spinning #7A of Chic Cossaboone in turn 3. Race restarts on lap 13 with a battle now forming with the now hard charging Strunk all over Pauch taking him 2wide in the corners. Pratt continues to slip back as #27 of Steve Bottcher and now fast charging Doug Hoffman moving back into the top 7 passing Pratt on the back stretch. By lap 15 Howard has opened up a 3/4 track lead on the field . The real race is now between Hendrickson in 2nd, Keith Hoffman in 3rd and Strunk. Strunk starts to make his presence known as he is all over Hoffman at this point looking for the 3rd spot. Hoffman and Strunk are now nose to tail entering lap 19 as Strunk looks to make his move. Heading into turn 3, Strunk dives in low and finally makes his pass on Hoffman for 3rd on lap 20. Howard starts to hit lap traffic on lap 23. Things start to get interesting as Howard tries to lap #711 of Iles and rear damaged #44 of Chester as they are fighting 2wide around the track for position. Howard tries desperately to look for a hole between the two for the next 2 laps. The slug fest between Iles and Chester if front of Howard gives Wade Hendrickson some track to start running down the leader Howard. Chester finally gets the position on Iles and Howard quickly makes the pass Iles on lap 30. Howard meanwhile has his hands full trying to pass Chester to put him a lap down so he can open up his lead on a now hard charging Hendrickson who is driving him down. With Hendrickson gaining, Strunk has now run down Hendrickson in the 3rd spot and the 2 are nose to tail. Howard finally gets a run on a damaged Chester and pulls of the pass on lap 34. Howard and Strunk have now closed to within 6 car lengths but they are no match for Howard who takes the opportunity passing Chester to once again check out on the field. Hendrickson now has to worry about Strunk who is all over his tail going into lap 40. Strunk tries several times to get inside runs on Hendrickson but the Flyin Farmer is able to hold him off. Howard easily races to the Checkered for his 5th big event Bridgeport win of the season. Howard lapped all but the top 6 as he collects his second “Big Check “of the day. Hendrickson holds off Strunk for 2nd, Keith Hoffman 4th and Billy Pauch holds on the 5th spot. Pauch has now opened up a 7 car lead as VonDohren continues to work the outside line hoping to gain some track. The two continue to battle for the 2nd spot until lap14 when Howard take CVD inside 2wide to take the 2nd spot away in turns 3-4. By 18 Pauch Jr has a 10+ car length lead on 2nd as Howard tries to run him down. The new battle on the track is now between the #1of Pauch Sr and #27 of Chad James. The 2 are slugging it out till lap 21 when James gets a run on Pauch for the pass in turns 1&2. Pauch Jr. has now started working lapped traffic and Howard the crafty senior works this to his advantage. Pauch has to slow his considerable lead to deal with lapped traffic heading down the back stretch. As Pauch tries to lap a pair of 2 wide racers in 3&4 Howard pounces and passes Pauch for the lead by the turn 4 exit on lap 23. Howard holds on to the lead till the Lap 25 yellow for pit stops. At the pit stop break, Howard is the new leader, Pauch Jr 2nd, Pauch Sr 3rd, James 4th and hard charging Wade Hendrickson now in the top 5.

As the field lines back up for a restart the #11D of Pauch Jr has mechanical difficulties and goes off track for the remainder of the race. On the restart, Howard is still the leader with #1c of Craig Von Dohren now 2nd, #711 of Iles 3rd, Hendrickson 4th and James rounding out the top 5. On the restart Pratt gets a run on James making the pass in turn 3 and bringing Strunk with him. The field settles into single file till another yellow for a 3rd spin for Gibson bunches the field up again. On the restart, Howard leads them down with CVD, Iles, Hendrickson and Pauch in the top 5. Pratt now has his sights set on Pauch Sr as the two begin slugging it out in the corners. Howard has now checked out on the field leaving 2nd through 6th to battle for position. Pratt finally gets an inside run on Pauch on lap 40 in turn 3. The field settles in for 1 groove racing has the race laps start to click away. Hendrickson is all over Von Dohren’s bumper the last 10 laps but can’t seem to get that run he needs for the pass for the 2nd spot. Howard easily races to the Checkered with #1c Craig VonDohren 2nd, #85 wade Hendrickson 3rd, Richie Pratt holds on for 4th with Pauch behind in the 5th spot.

With a fresh restart, leader Walls jumps out again to the lead with #59 of Kelly Putz, #7 of Robinson, #12 of Mike Wilson and #V75 of Eric McKinney rounding out the top 5. The big battle on the track was for the 2nd through 5th positions as Walls started to check out on the field. 2nd spot of Kelly Putz had his hands full with Robinson for 2nd as 3rd spot, Wilson was doing everything he could to hold off McKinney for 5th. #11 of Joe Warren quickly jumped into the mix driving all over McKinney as McKinney started workin the outside line the corners. McKinney and Warren are now battling each other 2-wide throughout the corners with McKinney sticking and working the outside to lap 6 where McKinney makes his move dropping down inside from the top of turn 4 to make an inside pass on Warren. With McKinney now back in the top 5 he looks like a driver on a mission as he sets his sights now on the 4th spot of Mike Wilson. 3rd spot Robinson is still all over the bumper of #59 of Putz waiting for his opportunity to snatch that 2nd position away. With Walls driving away the top 5 are still in a huge battle for positions.
