ABOUT THE TRACK
New Egypt Speedway is a racy half-mile D-shaped clay oval that plays host to some of
the tightest, all-out wheel-to-wheel competition. Rick Grosso Jr. is the current Advance
Auto Parts Integra Shocks Modified track record-holder stopping the clocks in a time of
17.006 seconds for a one-lap average speed of 105.845 mph on Sept. 24 of 2005.
During regular weekly racing, Bucky Kell set the single lap speed standard of 16.476
sec. (109.250 mph) on May 11 of the same year. Matt Sheppard was recently crowned
2007 Big-Block Modified points champion.
PREVIOUS WINNERS
The Advance Auto Parts Series summer swings through New Egypt have boasted some
of the best in the business when it comes to victory lane presentations. The ‘Guitar
Jammin’ Twin 50s mark the first autumn experience for tour followers. Bespectacled
veteran 'Barefoot' Bob McCreadie captured the inaugural SDS event in 1998 followed
by New Egypt regular Billy 'The Kid' Pauch (2000), the 'Franklin Flyer' Billy Decker
(2001), Brett 'The Jet' Hearn (2002), 'A.J. Slideways' Alan Johnson (2003) and Pauch
again last June. Two other Advance Auto Parts SDS events held at NES in 2005 were
won by Tim Fuller (August ‘Showdown In The Pines’) and Matt Sheppard (September
‘Legends of the Fall’) while Fuller repeated in last year’s return to the Garden State . The
‘Big Bear 60’ held at NES this past August was claimed by Decker in a hard-fought
battle with track regular Keith Hoffman.

TRACK HISTORY
2007 marked a change in ownership at New Egypt Speedway for the first time in a
decade. Promoter Bill Miscoski and Fred Valshing were introduced as the new track
owners at the season-ending NES awards banquet staged last December. A former
Street Stock racer and Super Late Model car owner, Miscoski has served as the
mayor/deputy mayor of Upper Freehold Township in New Jersey for the past 15 years.
EME Excavating owner Valshing is a long-time friend of Miscoski and spearheads track
maintenance while Michael Sanchelli acts as Race Director. Long before the new
management team stepped in, NES was rescued from ruin and completely rebuilt from
the ground up by the Grosso family in 1997. The following year motorsports promoters
from all 50 states even named New Egypt "Most Outstanding Rehabilitation of a
Speedway," putting the central Jersey track in the national spotlight during Daytona
Speedweek ceremonies. Built in 1954, the current grounds were originally a gravel pit
and during the 1960s was recognized as Fort Dix Speedway. In its heyday in the 1960s
and '70s, the asphalt track was sanctioned by NASCAR on and off under different
owners and promoters and held events on Wednesdays. The pavement Modified record
book (1976-95) is headed by nine-time national champion Richie Evans (25) and
includes such legendary drivers as Jimmy Spencer, Geoff Bodine, George Kent,
Maynard Troyer, Jerry Cook and Tom Baldwin. When the Grossos bought the track in
1997 it was a quarter-mile asphalt oval that was two weeks away from Sheriff's sale for
non-payment of taxes and no track records were part of the eventual deed transfer. In
the 10 years the track has been dirt, Billy Pauch (didn't compete in 1998) has long
eclipsed Evans' old standard. Including one win registered in ’07, Pauch has amassed
64 career victories and also captured three (2002, 2000, 1999) NES season point
championships along the way. New York State traveler Matt Sheppard made a divisionhigh
seven trips to victory lane to outscore Ryan Godown (3 wins), Advance Auto Parts
Series follower Frank Cozze (5 wins, 2003 & ’05 NES champ), Keith Hoffman (1 win,
2001 NES champion) and Jimmy Horton (2 wins, 2004 & ’06 champ) in the final 2007
NES point standinds.
2007 RACE REVIEW
Empire State invader Billy Decker swapped the lead with home track hopeful Keith Hoffman on
three occasions and his final pass with 10 laps to go was enough to carry him on to his second
Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series win of the season on Wed., Aug. 15 as K&A
Excavating presented the Big Bear 60 at New Egypt Speedway. Hoffman held on to finish
second ahead of Brett Hearn and Dale Planck while Tim Fuller completed the top-five in round
16 of the 2007 tour for DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds. Hoffman had an admittedly lack-luster
performance in his qualifying heat yet after drawing the pole to start the feature, the Michaels
Bros. Racing no. 51m Land Image Landscaping/TEO machine easily stayed ahead of the field
when money was on the line. Strapped into the LJL Racing no. 91 Gypsum Wholesalers-
Stadium Int'l-Quality Hardwoods/Bicknell Big-Block, fourth-place starter Decker improved to
second following the first caution and took advantage of the slowdown to slingshot past
Hoffman as the lead duo completed the 15th circuit. Once past the halfway point, a rash of
cautions kept the field in check but not before Hoffman regained the lead on lap 32 in a move
mirroring that of Decker rocketing high out of the fourth corner. Decker shadowed Hoffman for
a dozen circuits before forging the final lead change on lap 51 and even a final yellow flag with
two to go when Danny Johnson broke a rear hub failed to prevent Decker from scoring his
second victory in the ’07 Advance Auto Parts Series by a half-dozen car-lengths.

NEWS & NOTES
Mr. DIRTcar Champion Ready To Be Crowned : The overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco
Race Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Modified Champion in 2007 will be determined by adding
actual points earned in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series to those bonuses
collected in DIRT Regional Racing Series for Big-Blocks. Along with earning valuable
SDS points throughout the season, each driver must now attempt to qualify for a
minimum of twelve (12) weekly DIRT-sanctioned events in the same class. Drivers will
receive 1200 bonus points towards the overall Mr. DIRT Championship if they attempt
to qualify for 12 regional races. That total will decrease by 100 points for each
appearance less than 12 (i.e. if a driver attempts to qualify for only 10 DIRT Regional
Racing Series events that driver receives 1000 bonus points, five starts = 500 points,
etc.).
Commitment To Excellence: For the third straight year tour officials once again signed
up the best Big-Block Modified teams in the Northeast to compete in every Advance
Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series show. The star-studded group of drivers accepting
contract extensions are reigning Mr. DIRTcar points king and winningest Big-Block
Modified driver Alan Johnson, current Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series
points leader Tim Fuller, all-time DIRTcar Modified win leader Brett Hearn, five-time
DIRTcar NorthEast Driver of the Year Danny Johnson, ‘04 Mr. DIRTcar titlist Gary
Tomkins, third-year tour follower Jimmy Phelps, Canandaigua Speedway recordsetter
Steve Paine, New Egypt Speedway points champion Matt Sheppard, full-time
tour follower Dale Planck, Keystone State open-wheel veteran Frank Cozze, four-time
Super DIRT Week Rite Aid 200 champion Billy Decker and Central New York talent
Justin Hears.
Home Track Heroes: When the Advance Auto Parts Series makes its second stop of
the year at New Egypt it will be recently crowned track champion Matt Sheppard, Frank
Cozze, Jimmy Horton and Ryan Godown on defense in the Garden State DIRTcar
finale. All four drivers competed at Syracuse in the Rite Aid 200 Super DIRT Week title
event with Godown’s 13th-place finish the best among them. Sheppard actually led laps
126-153 yet relinquished a top-three position when the Ross Motorsports no. 44s entry
ran out of fuel with a handful of laps to go, ending up 23rd just one spot ahead of Horton.
Cozze suffered a broken rear hub on his own mount to fill in 27th on the final scoresheet.
Each fared much better throughout the season at NES, with Sheppard capturing a
division-high seven checkered flags to finish ahead of Godown (4 wins), Cozze (5 wins),
Keith Hoffman (1 win) and Horton (2 wins) in the Saturday night points chase. Sheppard
pulled off a dramatic last turn, last lap pass of Horton to cop the Advance Auto Parts
Series stop at NES in September of 2005, with his last tour victory taken at
Canandaigua Speedway in September ’06. The timing may be just right for open-wheel
veteran Cozze to repeat at his hometrack on Saturday after claiming his seventh career
tour triumph in May when the Advance Auto Parts Series ran at Orange County --- the
site of his first Series victory in 1989.
Shock Value To Series Fast Qualifiers In ‘07: For a second straight year Integra
Shocks is playing an active role in point fund sponsorship of the Advance Auto Parts
Super DIRTcar Series during the upcoming race season. The fast driver during 2007
Advance Auto Parts Series qualifying will once again earn the 'Integra Shocks Fast
Time Award' and the driver winning the most Integra Shocks Fast Time awards during
the season will collect a bonus set of four Integra Shocks ($1,000 value) at the DIRTcar
Racing NorthEast Banquet in November. The Advance Auto Parts Series has
recognized fast time trialers since 1983, with 1999 marking the first season the awards
program included every tour event scheduled during the year. All-time Advance Auto
Parts SDS race winner Brett Hearn is also a leader when it comes to speed, earning a
series-best total of 34 Integra Shocks Fast Time awards during the past 20 years.
Drivers will continue to draw for their order in the 'Integra Shocks Time Trials’ at all
Advance Auto Parts shows, however, this season the fast timer will select a second pill
to determine how many cars (3, 4, 5 or 6) will be inverted to start each preliminary heat
race. The 'Integra Shocks Fast Time Award' winner will collect $100 and five (5) bonus
points and the top-three heat race finishers will earn additional bonus points as follows:
1st-5 pts, 2nd-3 pts, 3rd-1 pt. With the new inversion format in place, a driver can now
earn a maximum of 10 more points being the fast timer as well as a heat race winner.
DIRTcar NE Win Leaders: A total of 28 speedways have hosted DIRTcar-sanctioned
Big-Block Modified races with 73 drivers scoring victories in the 191 features run
through Super DIRT Week. Along with recording his 500th career DIRTcar Modified
feature win, Brett Hearn (14 wins) remains atop the ’07 list and is joined by Danny
Johnson (11) and Jimmy Phelps (10) as the only drivers in double figures. Next on the
list of 36 drivers posting more than one victory are Billy Decker, Matt Sheppard and
Jeremiah Shingledecker who own seven apiece. Canandaigua record-setter Steve
Paine, Advance Auto Parts Series stalwarts Alan Johnson and Frank Cozze, and newly
crowned Lernerville points champion Brian Swartzlander come next with six followed by
2007 Rite Aid 200 Champion Vic Coffey, tour mainstay Gary Tomkins, ’07 Tri-City
points king Kevin Bolland and Rex King, each with five. Series points leader Tim Fuller,
Justin Haers, Ryan Godown and ’07 Brewerton Speedway season champion Willy
Decker have each taken four checkered flags while Andy Bachetti and Tom Sears Jr.
have made three trips to victory lane. Led by Series star Dale Planck and tour race
winner Pat O’Brien, 16 drivers have repeated with rising Series star Billy Dunn cracking
the winner’s circle on one occasion in ‘07.
Super Series Stats: Since the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series debut in
1980, 65 drivers have reached victory lane in 589 races with Virginia Motor Speedway
becoming in May the 44th track to stage a championship event. Along with Brett Hearn's
DIRT-best 507 (339 big-block/168 small-block) Modified wins registered at more than 30
tracks throughout the Northeast, the 'Jet' has flown to the top on the all-time Advance
Auto Parts (98) Super DIRTcar Series win chart, with a division-best 65 extra-distance
triumphs also scored in Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Series competition.

Triple Crown Christened: The customary pre-race re-draw among top heat race
qualifiers will continue to be in effect throughout the summer, with ‘Triple Crown’ events
at Lebanon Valley Speedway , New York State Fairgrounds and Orange County Fair
Speedway the only Advance Auto Parts Series stops awarding fast timers with poleposition
starts. Heat points will not be awarded at these shows.
Continuing to rank among the most prestigious races in the country, the Rite Aid 200 at
the N.Y.S. Fairgrounds in Syracuse on Oct. 7, Eastern States 200 at Orange County on
Oct. 21, and Coors National 200 at Lebanon Valley on Sept. 8 are the only 200-lap
races on the annual tour and in 2007 these three signature events on the Advance Auto
Parts SDS formulate the first ‘Triple Crown’ in DIRTcar Racing for Big-Block Modifieds.
In addition, the Rite Aid 200 winner automatically earns seventh-place on the Eastern
States 200 starting grid and the winner of the Coors National 200 will start outside the
fourth row in the Middletown finale.
This unique ‘Triple Crown’ features the $50,000-to-win Rite Aid 200 in the Salt City ,
$20,000-to-win Eastern States 200 in Middletown (NY) and $10,000-to-win Coors
National 200 at the West Lebanon (NY) oval. These are the only Advance Auto Parts
Series stops where the fast timers start on the pole and the top-six are locked into front
three row starting positions while heats will be aligned in heads-up fashion. A special
points system has been implemented for these three races with each winner receiving
150 Series points and 50 points awarded to start.
