(Oct9) In only his second race after his disabling injury, Signal Mountain TN driver Tim Totherow, shows everyone, including himself, that he still has what it takes to win.
In his first race the week before, he finished 9th in the feature and 5th in the heat. He just wanted to make laps in an effort to get comfortable with the car and the hand operated clutch as he has no control of his left leg. Tim has some use of his right leg, which allows him to operate the throttle and the brake. "I can't rotate my ankle the way most people do so I have to push the throttle by lifting and lowering my leg.", Tim stated in an earlier interview. "Riding around under caution is very hard ."
If there were any doubters as to whether or not Tim could still win, they can sit down now. In the heat race, Tim worked his way to third and was trying for second when the checkered fell. " The second place guy was doing a good job of keeping me behind him,", Tim told me, "..I had to get down in the slop and came up about two feet short in a side by side run at the end." In the feature, he worked his way to the front and made the pass for the lead with eight laps to go. "I just waited for the 57 car to bobble, and I drove right by him." " There was no looking back after that."
