The season is quickly coming to a close in the Northeast. On Saturday,
October 20th, Fans will get their last chance of the season to see Winged
Sprint cars compete. The CRSA Sprint car series will take to Albany Saratoga
Speedway to Decide The Series Championship. A field of 20 to 25 cars is
expected to pace "The Great Race Place" this Saturday.
Many People don't understand the concept of the CRSA Sprint car series. A
common misconception is that the cars racing in the series are budget, or
crate motor sprint cars. The cars of the CRSA are anything but budget or
crate. The CRSA sprint cars are Full sized sprint cars with 305 C.I. small
block engines in them. Teams are allowed to build their own engines but are
limited by the RaceSaver rules package known nationwide. Most of the 305
Sprint cars are producing around 430 HP at 1500 Lbs., a combination capable
of producing lap times a few seconds quicker than the big block modifieds
native to this area.
The points battle is heating up between Middletown NY's Chuck Alessi and
Kerhonkson, NY's Jeremy Quick. Billy Jaycox and Warren Alexson sit within 40
points of the top two pushing the fight for the championship down to the
wire.
Before the 2 PM start time, the cars of the CRSA will be on display behind
the grandstands and the drivers will be on hand to sign autographs and
answer questions.
Krash Menders and Custom by Bob put up an additional 400 dollars for the
CRSA heat races.
Also on the card for Saturday afternoon is the Northstar Chevrolet "Dash for
Cash". Six or eight drivers in the top 15 in points will race 8 laps for a
purse of 500 dollars.
An extra 600 dollars will be added to the A-main purse thanks to Denise
Vespa Stables, Brian Grisel CRSA/CEO, Demitraszek Entreprises Plumbing
Heating Mechanical. The winner of the heat races, Dash, and A-main will all
have their pictures taken in the Albany Saratoga Speedway Victory lane.
Chuck Alessi, Jeremy Quick, Bill Jaycox, and Warren Alexson top the points
sheet going into the final race of the season followed by, Brennan, Gogg,
Vansteenburg, Rice, Demitraszek and rounding out the top 10 is Russell.
The CRSA Sprint cars have made it out for 11 official shows in 2007
Producing 9 different winners. Making a trip to victory lane this season
were Jeff Vansteenburg, Anthony Brennan, Chuck Alessi, Jami Russell, Warren
Alexson, Jim Mccaffrey, and Jeff Sell. Billy Jaycox and Matt Demetraszek
were the only Repeat winners on the tour in 2007.
The rain date for the final race of the season will be Sunday, October 21st.
