SUMMER SLAM DRIVERS CONFIRMED
18 October 2007. By Ben Graham
The V8 Dirt Modified Summer Slam Series gets underway in just a few weeks time, with twelve of the countries leading drivers contracted to the Series. Leading the field of contracted stars is defending Series champ, Steven Milthorpe, who will be joined by the likes of Scott Cannon, Mark Robinson, Stuart Herne & Lloyd Hobson. Joining the Series this year will be South Australian standout Cory Read and Queensland charge Darren Latimer.
According to Series co-ordinator Karen McLean, big things are expected from the second running of the Summer Slam Series
“We’ve worked non-stop over the off-season getting everything in place for this years Series. We’ve worked with the drivers and made a few changes to the payout and the like so I think we now have a format and structure in place that everybody is pretty happy with”.
“The biggest thing we have in our favour is the racing; the racing in the Summer Slam last season was hands down some of the best racing in the country from any division. The Promotors now realise that we have got a good product in the Summer Slam Series and if we continue to get the support from Promotors then there is no reason why the Summer Slam Series and V8 Dirt Modified’s can’t continue to grow”.
An important change to this year’s Series is the round in Queensland, arguably the capital of V8 Dirt Modified racing in Australia.
“Going to Queensland will be huge” said McLean. “They are pushing 25 cars at each race up there and if you add to that our contracted drivers I think you will see some pretty spectacular racing”.
This years Series kicks off at Avalon Raceway on November 10.
