Over $34,000 in Cash Awaits Top Empire Super Sprint Teams at the Annual Awards Banquet: Total Awards to top $65,000.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The final checkered flag for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) is set to be waved on Saturday evening, November 10th at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Liverpool, N.Y. It’s the 24th annual awards banquet to bring down the curtain on the very successful tour brought to you by Jacobs Motorsports. In all, over $34,000 in cash will be split up among 16 race teams with the banquet total topping the $65,000 mark in added bonuses.
Steve Poirier, his family and race team will be seated at the head table to celebrate his first ever ESS championship and the second title in a row captured by a team from North of the Border. The driver from St. Mathieu del Beloeil, Quebec will get the lions share of the $25,000 base point fund, he will also receive $750 from the $5,000 Lucas Oil Canadian Invasion Point Fund for placing third, a $550 cash prize for winning the Lane’s Yamaha Hard Charger points, A $200 check from the Walt’s Hobby Dash Series point fund and is eligible for many other awards.
Otego, N.Y.’s Jeff VanDusen was the runner-up in the overall point standings for an incredible third year in a row. The young chauffeur will also see a big part of the point fund pie as well to go along with $1,500 for winning the Lucas Oil Series. A total of $385 for taking second in the Hard Charger points to go along with other awards.
Joining Poirier and VanDusen will be Lance Yonge, Jeff Cook, Alain Bergeron, Michael Parent, Tommy Wickham, Bubby Kerrick, Mike Stelter, Justin Barger, Cory Sparks, Jared Zimbardi, Brian McDonald, Jessica Zemken, Russ Bennett and Normand Beaudreault in sharing of the cash and awards.
The first ever “Lucky 21 Giveaway” which involves 25 different sprint car parts makers and manufacturers will see over $15,000 in product to be handed out to the sixteen race teams as well as many other awards from the over 50 different sponsors on the tour for 2007.
The annual rules meetings will take place from 9 AM and run to its conclusion where some 17 race teams are eligible to vote on possible rule changes for 2008. Teams should note that dinner deadline for the banquet is Tuesday, Oct. 23rd.
An incredible 25 years of sprint car excitement will culminate on Saturday, November 10th. The luxurious Comfort Inn and Suites will be the home of the annual awards banquet for five years in a row and it will be another gala affair. The tradition continues… as its excitement guaranteed!
