Weedsport, NY – October 29, 2007 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director
The 37th Annual DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in February will be highlighted by the 11th straight trip to the Sunshine State for the Advance Auto Parts Big-Block Modifieds.
The Florida Tour at Volusia officially kicks off DIRTcar Racing’s 33rd consecutive season of operation with the mighty Modifieds from the Northeast in action during the week leading up to the Daytona 500. The schedule once again includes three 30-lap main events with a 50-lap finale closing out the trip on Saturday, February 16. DIRT Tour '08 marks the 24th trek to Florida for Northeastern Modified teams since 1978 and it will be DIRTcar's 17th visit to Volusia since staging its inaugural event in 1982.
Over 40 DIRTcar Modified drivers signed in at Volusia last February, with the ‘Doctor’ Danny Johnson dominating to capture his third DIRTcar Nationals points championship in the annual winter road trip for the NorthEast’s top traveling teams. Johnson won the 50-lap Big-Block finale to clinch the rain-shortened three-race Florida Tour title, sandwiching a round two runner-up finish with an opening night victory in gator country.
Located a half-hour from Daytona Beach, this famed facility has seating for nearly 10,000 fans. Coming up next February, the World of Outlaws (Feb. 8-10) and World of Outlaws Late Models (Feb. 14 & 16) will join the Advance Auto Parts Big-Blocks (Feb. 13-16) in kicking off their own race seasons. DIRTcar-sanctioned UMP Late Models (Feb. 11-13, 15) and UMP/DIRTcar Modifieds (Feb. 5-12) add to the 12-day DIRTcar Racing marathon down south with three straight nights of All-Star Sprint Circuit of Champions (Feb. 5-7) specials opening up the month.
