Mr. DIRTcar Modified Champ Hearn Earns 4th Gater News Lap Leader Award
Weedsport, NY – October 31, 2007 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director
Winning DIRTcar Championships has become one of the hardest habits to break for Big-Block Modified star Brett Hearn. And being ranked atop the list of Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series lap leaders has become another annual ritual enjoyed by DIRTcar NorthEast’s winningest Modified driver through the years.
For the seventh straight year Gater Racing Photo News is recognizing the Advance Auto Parts Series lap leader with its special bonus award program developed at the start of in the new millennium. For the fourth time in his career, Hearn has won the "Gater Leads The Way" lap award and in 2007 will collect a prize package valued in excess of $1,000, including a gift certificate from Leaf Racewear, Gater News subscriptions and a commemorative trophy.
The award will be presented by Gater News editor Joe Patrick at the upcoming DIRTcar Racing NorthEast ‘Night of Champions’ Banquet on Nov. 17 at the Oncenter Complex in Syracuse, New York. “This is an award that demands consistency up front throughout the year so its something both racers and fans can pay attention to all season long,” said Patrick, whose father Norm Patrick ---retired publisher of Gater and '97 DIRT MotorSports NE Hall of Fame Inductee--- co-founded Central New York 's top-rated tradepaper in 1966. "We’re proud that this award has grown in stature over the years and retained its unique quality at the same time.”
Hearn claimed the inaugural Gater News lap award in 2001, also taking top honors the next year before following up with a repeat performance in 2004. The ‘Jet’ flew to the top of the field on 11 occasions in 32 feature races run this season, leading a total of 630 laps and scoring a division-high seven tour triumphs along the way.
Past "Gater Leads The Way" Award winners include Tim McCreadie, who led the most Advance Auto Parts Series laps in 2003, and overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Modified Champions Alan Johnson (2006) and Tim Fuller (2005).
