Jason Meyers and Scott Bloomquist Claim Dramatic Victories
As Big Crowd Cheers Inaugural World of Outlaws World Finals

CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 2, 2007) - Jason Meyers and Scott Bloomquist
shared the victory podium Friday during the second night of the
inaugural
World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor
Speedway.
Meyers led only one lap in the 30-lap World of Outlaws Sprint Series
feature, but it was the most important one as the Clovis, Calif.,
driver
banked $10,000 for his fifth series victory of the season.
Series points leader Donnie Schatz took the lead at the green flag
and set the pace until the 29th trip around the four-tenths-mile clay
oval.
However, Schatz slid high in turn two on the final lap and jumped the
cushion. The minor miscue slowed his momentum just enough that Meyers
drove
around him exiting turn four.
"This is just awesome. Donny (Schatz) had a great race car and I
knew we were just as good. But we weren't going to be able to pass him,
so
we had to have lapped traffic," said Meyers. "It just all came together
for
us. Thank you to all the race fans; it's awesome to be at Charlotte,
and
they did a great job on the track."
Schatz settled for second, but needs only to start Saturday night's
feature to claim his second consecutive World of Outlaws Sprint Series
championship.
Tim Shaffer started sixth and finished third with 20-time series
champion Steve Kinser fourth under the checkered flag. Shane Stewart
rounded
out the top five in the 26-car field.
The red flag was unfurled on lap 14 for a vicious crash involving
Kerry Madsen and Paul McMahan. The accident started when Madsen slid up
into
McMahan exiting turn two. McMahan's car flipped end-over-end into the
catch
fence while Madsen also turned over. The two cars were heavily damaged,
but
both drivers walked away.
The race was also slowed by five caution flags for inconsequential
incidents, the last being waved on lap 21.
The eight-lap sprint car heat races were won by Schatz, Craig
Dollansky, Kinser and Madsen.
Dean Jacobs and Justin Henderson walked away uninjured after a
tangle in the second heat race sent both cars flipping into the outside
fence. Brian Smith was also unhurt in a fourth heat race tumble.
Doug Esh topped the C feature while Fred Rahmer led the field to the
checkered flag in the B main and Jason Meyers went wire-to-wire in
winning
the Crane Cams Dash.
Bloomquist failed to qualify through his heat race and had to earn
his way into the 50-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series feature by
winning one of the two 12-lap B features. Then to make it even tougher,
the
Mooresburg, Tenn., veteran pitted on lap seven for adjustments before
romping through the field to claim his third series victory of the
season
and the fourth of his career at The Dirt Track.
"What a great race and a great race track," Bloomquist said. "When
we first took off there, the car was a little bit off. I went in and
had
them do some adjustments real quick, so we had to come from dead last.
I
think the track came around and the tires came in, just everything
worked
good. I definitely don't need to touch the race car for tomorrow
because
that baby was sweet."
While Bloomquist worked through the field, Jeremy Miller led the
first 31 laps before falling out with mechanical problems and handing
the
lead to Ricky Elliott. For several laps, it looked as if Elliott would
hold
on, but he proved to be no match for Bloomquist who drove around him on
lap
44.
Earl Pearson Jr. started 15th and finished third while Steve Francis
moved up from the 18th starting spot and clinched his first World of
Outlaws
Late Model Series championship with a fourth-place finish. Josh
Richards
rounded out the top five.
The late model feature was slowed by 10 caution flags for a serious
of minor incidents.
Eric Jacobsen, Donnie Moran, Matt Miller, Jonathan Davenport, Jeremy
Miller and Chris Madden topped the eight-lap heat races for the late
models.
Dan Schlieper flipped in the first late model heat race and Don O'Neal
rode
out a nasty tumble in the third heat. Neither driver was injured.
Bloomquist and Jeep Van Wormer topped the 12-lap late model B mains
while Tim Tungate was the class of the C-feature field.
The inaugural World of Outlaws World Finals concludes Saturday night
with a full slate of racing for both divisions. Spectator gates open at
4
p.m. with opening ceremonies at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $35 for adults
and $10
for children ages 12 and under.
