Planck Is Area Auto ‘Hard Luck’ Winner At DIRTcar NorthEast Luncheon

Dale Planck never sought this type of award when he began the season chasing points in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series. Yet in the aftermath of a frustrating 2007 season, it’s quite an attractive consolation prize for finishing sixth in the overall 2007 Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship for Big-Block Modifieds.
Thanks to Area Auto Racing News publisher/editor Lenny Sammons, who once again sponsored the ‘Hard Luck Award’ for DIRTcar Racing NorthEast’s premier division, Planck’s bad luck in Advance Auto Parts Series competition has evolved into an enjoyable mid-winter weekend in Atlantic City , New Jersey .
This blockbuster off-season affair for motorsports enthusiasts in the seaside resort town arrives January, 18-20, 2008. The 23rd edition of AARN’s Motorsports Expo takes place all three days in the plush Atlantic City Convention Center while in nearby Boardwalk Hall, Three-Quarter Midgets and 600cc Micro-Sprints will navigate the indoor one-eighth-mile concrete.
AARN ‘Hard Luck Award’ winner Planck, 37, from Cortland, New York will receive a pair of tickets to Area Auto's TQ Midget-Microsprint Indoor Show on Jan. 18-19, two nights (Fri-Sat) luxury hotel accommodations at the Atlantic City Sheraton Convention Center, plus two complimentary passes to Motorsports 2008 and $200 in spending money.
Planck will be recognized in a special presentation made by AARN assistant editor Brett Deyo during the season-ending DIRTcar Racing NorthEast Luncheon on Sat., Nov. 17 in the Empire Room on the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse , N.Y. The annual gathering is scheduled to begin with lunch served at 11:30 a.m. followed by awards ceremonies recognizing this year’s DIRTcar Track Champions.
The 32nd annual DIRTcar Racing NorthEast ‘Night of Champions’ Awards Banquet at the Syracuse Oncenter in the evening will formally honor all major series champions crowned during the 2007 race season.
In the season-ending 200-lap Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series events steering the no. 77x East End Auto Parts & Construction-Jacob's Excavation/Bicknell entry, Planck had an average finish of 23rd-place among those 12 drivers qualifying for all three. The ‘Natural’ placed 12th at Lebanon Valley Speedway completing 198 of 200 laps despite suffering a broken rear-end; ran out of gas with four laps left going for a Top-5 to finish 25th in the Rite Aid 200 at Syracuse, then had his front-end torn off while trying to pit with a flat tire to end up 30th in the Eastern States 200 at Orange County Fair Speedway.
