A great 2007 season at Cornwall Motor Speedway

Cornwall, On – Sunday November 11, 2007 – Despite a slow start in the season because of mother nature that did not want to see races in the first three nights of the racing season. The race fans were pleased for the rest of the year with an average of over 80 cars per night in the pit area.

With a great field of modifieds on any given Sunday night with driver coming from the provinces of Ontario and Quebec and also from the United States, Alain Boisvert won his first championship at Cornwall in his career. With a win to his credit, Boisvert was pretty consistent all year long and won the title with a 20 point advantage (610 vs 590) on Clément Therien and Lee Ladouceur, who finished third. Two drivers won three features each and they are the famous Danny Johnson and Pierre Dagenais. Six other drivers like Billy Decker and Pat O’Brien won a race.

In the pro-stock category, some of the best drivers on the DIRTcar circuit were regulars at Cornwall. For a second year in a row, Clayton Benedict won the track title; he won it by a very slim margin of only 2 points (624 vs 622) over PJ Peters. Louie Jackson finished third in the title’s race. Four drivers won two features each. With an average of 18 cars per Sunday night, it is probably the best field of all the circuit and each race was quite something.

The Plantagenet, Ontario driver Marc Lalonde won the semi-pro championship without winning any feature. Lalonde finished ahead of Stuart Mullin by only 9 points (596 vs 587). It was decided during the final point’s night and Lalonde was able to take advantage of some bad luck for Mullin. This same Mullin was pretty dominant all year long by winning the most features with a total of four.

With a field of nearly 30 cars on every Sunday night, the rookie category was separated in two classes in the middle of the season. It is finally Corey Wheeler that was crowned the champion in front of Eli Gilbert and Marc Usereau.

Many big events were held during the year with the big blocks that did there annual stop at the ¼ mile bullring in July with Billy Decker getting the victory. Pat O’Brien showed his great talent during the Canadian DIRT Challenge and David Hébert did the same during the big Jiffy 150 show in September. Pete Stefanski did the same thing in the pro-stock during that same night. The Empire Super Sprints gave excellent show during there two visits. The sportsman also did a return at the end of the year.
