“FUN STOCKS” TO BE ADDED to OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY WEEKLY SHOW IN ‘08
In an effort to give the youth and racing enthusiasts of our
community and surrounding area a place to gather and participate, Ohsweken
Speedway will introduce a new low cost division to their weekly program in
2008. Named the “Fun Stocks”, Ohsweken tech inspector Glen Hils has been
instrumental in the formation of the new division designed to fill the need
to compete without breaking the budget.
“It is no secret that racing can be and is expensive to participate in”
stated track promoter Glenn Styres. “When we first opened the track we had a
lot of people competing in low dollar cars. As the competition grew more
intense, we let the cost get out of hand and it has driven many people away
simply because they can’t afford it. This new class is designed to give
those people a chance to come back, have fun, and compete without having to
spend a lot of money” Styres concluded.
The small track in the infield will be reconfigured to a flatter quarter
mile and readied for racing. Stock 3, 4, 5, and 6 cylinder cars with 3.1
liter engines or less from 1984 and newer will be allowed. Five and six
cylinder cars will have to use an automatic transmission. “Other than adding
some safety items, removing the glass and combustible materials and some
structural strengthening the cars will be pretty much the same as they would
be if driven on the street” states Glen Hils. “It should not cost much to
put one of these cars on the track”.
Further information including a full set of building rules will be available
on the Ohsweken Speedway website at HYPERLINK

couple of weeks. Glen Hils can also be reached at (905) 628-1716 weekdays
from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for further information.
