SUTLIFF TO SPONSOR SPORTSMAN TOUR IN 2008
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- Pennsylvania's Sportsman Tour has a new title
sponsor for 2008 and once again Williams Grove Speedway will be the
flagship of the popular series for super sportsman cars.
Sutliff Cadillac Hummer and Sutliff Saturn, Inc. will sponsor the
points fund for the Sutliff Sportsman Tour.
The Sutliff dealerships located on the Carlisle Pike In
Mechanicsburg have been a part of the local racing scene in recent years
by supplying Hummer pace vehicles for some special events at Williams
Grove Speedway.
Sutliff will be supplying pace vehicles for Williams Grove races
again in 2008.
The sportsman race teams have found a home at the Grove since
Silver Spring Speedway closed at the conclusion of the 2005 season, and
have been scheduled to appear at the venerable Mechanicsburg half-mile
on 22 occasions in 2008.
The sportsman cars will once again headline the Grove's Saturday
Night Series, which will also feature limited late models and street
stocks along with appearances by 4-cylinder stocks and enduro cars.
Seventeen Saturday Night Series events are on the 2008 schedule.
The sportsman cars will also be a part of five other programs at
Williams Grove to bring their total appearances to 22. That number
represents a record for this division, which began its association with
the Grove in 1981.
The self-starting winged sportsman cars are noted for their close
competition, which produced twelve different winners in fourteen races
at Williams Grove in 2006 and nine winners in twelve races last year.
Carlisle's Frankie Herr is the defending Sportsman Tour and
Williams Grove Speedway sportsman champion.
The Saturday Night Series featuring the sportsman cars is scheduled
to begin on March 29.
Sprint car racing will be the sole attraction for the 2008 season
opener on Sunday afternoon, February 24.
