MERCER RELEASES 2008 STOCK CAR RULES; SEASON TO OPEN MARCH 29 FOR $1,000 TO-WIN
By Mike Leone
December 4, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mercer, PA.Mercer Raceway Park has released the 2008 rules for the Stock Car division for the upcoming season. Though the division will not be part of the weekly program at the 3/8-mile oval, the Stock Cars will appear in numerous specials throughout the season beginning with the Saturday, March 29 season opening "Chiller Thriller".
"The Stock Cars have been an important part of our racing at program for many years," acknowledged owner Vicki Emig. "Though we won't be running them weekly, we will be working them into various events throughout the 2008 season. Our tech inspector Randy Myers came up with a set of rules that will be valid for all of the shows and will allow for the maximum amount of competitors from throughout the region to be able to participate. We wanted to make these rules available as soon as possible so racers can plan accordingly. "
The Stock Cars will race a 25-lap feature paying $1,000 to-win as part of the March 29 "Chiller Thriller" and will be joined by the Steel-Block Late Models for $2,000 to-win and the Mini Stocks for $150 to-win, plus possibly a fourth division. The rain date for this event is April 5.
The Stock Cars will of course be part of the season-ending, crown jewel "Little Guy Nationals," which is tentatively scheduled for Friday and Saturday, 26 and 27 with two complete shows.
"We've gotten lots of calls from regional racers hoping we would continue to have the Stock Cars part of the Little Guy Nationals," explained Emig. "The Stock Cars have always turned out in record numbers for the Little Guy Nationals and we never once considered not including them in this event. Additional shows are also in the works that won't conflict with other speedways."
