Officials of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway promoter Sherri Heckenast have announced that the nations strongest national series will again sanction the Fourth Annual "99" on Friday and Saturday, May 2nd and 3rd, 2008 at the beautiful Calvert City, KY facility. New for 2008 is the restructure of the format. There will be a complete show each day for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series with a top prize of $9,999 up for grabs each night.
It will be the second year in a row that the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will sanction the marquee event at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway. Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, IL is the reigning "99" champion. Babb stood in victory lane at Kentucky Lake last May, nearly exhausted after an unseasonably warm night of racing. "My secondary barrels were hung wide open on my carburetor as I'm running around there, when I let off they were still going, so I was locking up my front brake as I ran the last ten about the worst I've ever run." "The track has its own characteristics, you could run high or low, the track was the best I've seen it."
These two events now bring the 2008 series schedule to a staggering 41 events in 16 states, the most in series history. The strength of the schedule comes of no surprise to Race Director Ritchie Lewis, "We had a great season on 2007 and that has really been reflected as it came time to build our 2008 schedule. I'm thrilled that we now have Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway back on tour. Sherri really puts her heart and sole into the place and we really enjoy working with those that share my love for the sport."
More details regarding the 4th Annual "99' and some new format changes along with some surprises will be released in the coming weeks as plans and ideas are finalized.
