The Sunday hub for DIRTcar Racing is gearing up for the 2008 season. Opening day for the 54th year of the Cayuga County Fair Speedway is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, April 13.

Once again the highlights of the schedule will be the return of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series on two separate occasions. The first will be on Sunday, May 25 as a part of the annual Memorial Day Celebration. The mighty Modifieds will run Twin 54’s, in honor of the speed plant’s 54th season of operation.

Last season’s Memorial Weekend show was washed out, placing even more emphasis on winning during one of the most popular racing weekends in the country.

The Cayuga County show is of course in conjunction with the return of the newly named Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at the Rolling Wheels Raceway on Monday, May 26.

“Each Memorial Day Weekend we offer race fans a tremendous opportunity to watch some of the most exciting racing anywhere in the country,” said Cayuga County Fair and Rolling Wheels Raceway General Manager Jack Deery. “It is also a unique situation for Advance Auto Parts, as they are now the title sponsor for each series. Fans can come to Cayuga County to watch the Advance Auto Parts Mods on Sunday, then travel just miles down the road to see the Advance Auto Parts Sprint Cars the following day. You can’t ask for much more!”

The second Super DIRTcar Series event at Cayuga County will again be on Labor Day Weekend. A set of Twin 54’s will take place Sunday, August 31 as a part of another popular weekend with Rolling Wheels Raceway. Last season Billy Decker and Alan Johnson took the Twins on Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, before Jimmy Phelps and Gary Tomkins hit pay dirt the next night at Rolling Wheels.

“Last season we had an exciting two nights of racing on Labor Day Weekend. With four features in two nights, and over 200-laps of racing, fans are certainly in store for some of the best racing DIRTcar has to offer,” said Deery.

Plans are still in the works for the Speedway during the Cayuga County Fair. Fans should expect the return of the always exciting Demolition Derby on Saturday, July 5. Dates are still open for July 3 and 4, and should be filled in once the final updated ’08 schedule is released in the coming weeks.

The month of October has two tentative dates at this point. During Super DIRT Week fans can catch the Mr. DIRTcar Street Stock Series on Friday, October 11. The next night is scheduled to be the return of the popular “Win & You’re In Twins” for Big-Block Modifieds.

Last year Kevin Bates earned a guaranteed starting spot in the Rite Aid 200 by winning the first Twin 25 feature event.

On a weekly basis, look for the return of the usual cast of characters on Sunday evenings. Jimmy Phelps, Jeremy Pitcher, Nick Rizzo, and Bill Werner will look to defend their track titles and provide the best weekly Sunday night racing around.

Fans can also expect the return of the World Famous Boat Race, ‘Four the Family Nights’, and the Green Mamba Jet Car.

Be ready for the 54th season at Cayuga County Fair Speedway starting in April.
