The inaugural "Crashing Through the Snow" to be held Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Mercer Raceway Park is drawing near. Included in this unique event are the "Jack Frost 150" Enduro and the "Snowball" Demo Derby. Action will get underway at 1 p.m. The severe weather make-up date is January 19.
The Enduro has drawn a lot of interest from a wide array of participants. As of December 11, 47 drivers have pre-entered for the 150-lap event, which will pay $1,000 to-win and pay down through fifth place. The event is limited to the first 150 cars. The deadline for the $50 entry is December 24. After that, the entry fee is $100. Entry fee includes driver's pit pass and scorer's admission into the grandstands. The Demo Derby will pay $500 to-win and is limited to 1980 and newer front-wheel- drive cars. Second place will receive $250 with $150 going to third place. While the VIP Suites sold out immediately, there are a limited amount of reserved viewing drive-in parking spaces available for $20. Adult grandstand admission is just $5 and $2 for students 6-15. One week later, the Normandy Banquet Center will be the site of Mercer Raceway Park's annual awards banquet and dinner for the fifth straight year. The facility will host the affair on Saturday, January 12, 2008. The Normandy Banquet Center, which is also the Hickory VFW Post 6166, is located on Route 62 just two miles east of Route 18 in Hermitage, Pa.
"We're thrilled to be going back to the Normandy Banquet Center for our banquet again," stated ninth year track owner Vicki Emig. "They've done a great job hosting the affair the last four years and have we've heard nothing but praise. The facility is top notch and the food is excellent. The location is perfect and it's a short drive for the majority of our attendees."
Rod George (Kittanning, PA) will celebrate his second Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Car Championship in the past three seasons. Garrett Krummert (New Castle, PA) captured his first ever championship of any kind in the American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds despite going winless. Brian Booher (Sandy Lake, PA) won his unprecedented three straight Tire Express Stock Car title. Rod Jones (West Middlesex, PA) won the inaugural championship for the Big Daddy's Speed Center Mod Lites and Mike Anderson (Harmony, PA) took top honors as the M&D Paving Mini Stocks returned weekly at Mercer for the first time the 1982 season. The top 10 in points of each division will receive their point fund monies and hardware. Numerous special awards will also be given out.
Doors open at 5:30 with dinner at 6:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow dinner. The event is open to the public. Ticket information has been mailed out to the drivers. Tickets are $33 per person. Mercer Raceway Park is located minutes from both Interstate 79 and 80 just off Route 19 on Fairground Road in Mercer, Pa.
