SCHEDULES SET FOR KEYSTONE CUP AND PENNSYLVANIA SPEEDWEEK
York Haven, Pa.....The promoters of central Pennsylvania Speedways have set the schedules for two of the area's biggest events. The Memorial Day Holiday Keystone Cup Series, and the Independence Day Holiday Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek schedules mirror last year's dates with one change.
This year's Second Annual Keystone Cup Series will be contested at five tracks over six days. The Keystone Cup will begin Wednesday evening May 21st at Grandview Speedway. Grandview will offer a 35 lap / $5,000 to win feature along with the ARDC Wingless Midgets that evening. After a night off the Keystone Cup resumes Friday May 23rd at Williams Grove Speedway and continues throughout the remainder of the Memorial Day weekend. The Williams Grove event will be 30 laps as will all the remaining shows.
Saturday May 24 it's off to Lincoln Speedway, with Sunday May 25 finding the series at Selinsgrove Speedway. The Keystone Cup will conclude Monday May 26 at Port Royal Speedway. This year's show at Port royal has been moved from afternoon to early evening.
Last year Fred Rahmer won the Keystone Cup crown without a single victory in the series. Lucas Wolfe was the big race winner with two victories. Single wins went to Greg Hodnett, Mark Smith, Stevie Smith and Danny Lasoski.
The Cindy Rowe Auto Glass Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek Series will again cover the week surrounding the July 4th Holiday, with eight races in nine days. Again a standard purse of $ 5,000 to win will be offered with several larger purse during the week, including the $10,000 to win Mitch Smith memorial at Williams Grove.
Speedweek opens on Saturday June 28 at the Lincoln speedway for the Kevin Gobrecht Memorial race. Sunday June 29 it's back to the Bedford Speedway, while Monday June 30 is an off date unless a rain date is need for Bedford.
Tuesday July 1 Grandview Speedway will host Speedweek showcasing the 410 Sprints and the 358 Modifieds in a doubleheader, while Wednesday July 2 it's off to Hagerstown Speedway. Port Royal gets the first of it's two dates on Thursday July 3, while Williams Grove hosts the Mitch Smith Memorial on Friday July 4. It's back to Port Royal on Saturday July 5, before things wrap up on Sunday July 6 with the Jan Opperman Memorial at Selinsgrove.
Last year Lucas Wolfe won his first Speedweek crown, but like Rahmer in the Keystone Cup, did it without a Speedweek win. Former champions Keith Kauffman and Greg Hodnett each scored two wins, while single victories went to Lance Dewease, Todd Shaffer and Sean Michael.
