Sold Out Banquet Honors Eldora Champions.
ROSSBURG, OH (Jan. 5) – A capacity crowd in excess of 700 people swelled the Eldora Ballroom Saturday Night (January 5), as Eldora Speedway brought an official close to its 2007 season with the crowning of it’s divisional champions and their court. Joining Eldora with their honors were the All Star Circuit of Champions and Sunoco American Late Model Series (ALMS) in the festive evening.
Carting off top honors were Jeep VanWormer (Late Models), Scott Orr (Modifieds), Jeff Babcock (Advance Auto Parts Stock Cars), Greg Wilson (All Stars) and Brian Ruhlman (ALMS). VanWormer and Babcock captured their initial Eldora titles, while Orr’s championship total now reads as five. Wilson is a back to back All Star champion and Ruhlman’s trip to the stage marked his second visit.
Several specialty awards spiced up the night, with Aaron Scott earning the highest honor by named the winner of the coveted Sportsman of the Year trophy. Earning Rookie of the Year accolades were Eddie Shaner (Advance Auto Parts Stock Car), Mike Dirksen (Modifieds) and Tyler Boggs (Late Model). Most Improved Driver tributes went to Ryan Sutter (Advance Auto Parts Stock Car), Steve Shute (Modified) and Wayne Chinn (Late Model).
Designed to recognize those that did everything they could to have a successful campaign, but failed to get any help from Lade Luck, the Hard Luck Awards were bestowed upon Chad Barr (Advance Auto Parts Stock Car), Rob Williams (Modified) and John Mason (Late Model). Best Appearing Car honors were awarded to Glenn Knick (Advance Auto Parts Stock Cars), Davey Gantt (Modified) and VanWormer (Late Model).
Senator Keith Faber, representing the Ohio 12th District opened the night with a brief statement honoring Eldora Speedway, citing the economic impact the facility has upon the area.
The affair was also the backdrop for Moser Engineering of Portland, IN, as they announced their partnership with Eldora Speedway to become the title sponsor of the UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) National Championship event in October, along with the title rights to the year-long Modified division.
